Wife has a Dell Inspirion E1505 that keep freezing on the Vista boot screen. You know the one with the 3 yellow bars that just run across the screen right before you see you login name.

Well it just freezes and never gets past that screen. I walked her through reinstalling Vista over the phone and it boots from the cd and then loads all the drivers off of it and then goes to the Vista boot screen again and freezes..

    Any ideas?

Try booting in safe mode,See why the boot freezes(if it does) and google it,Could be a common issue with an easy fix,Worth a try anyway..

First thing would be to make sure the HDD is set to AHCI mode in the BIOS; that could cause the Vista install to halt.

I would also suggest running the diagnostics. At the Dell boot screen, you have two options (I believe), one is to go into the setup or BIOS. I forget what the other is labelled, but choose that one; then from the menu select diagnostics. Not sure if the shortcut will work on that Dell, but you could try it anyway, that is to press the Fn button and the power button at the same time when powering the machine up, then releasing both.
