I bought a Dell inspiron n5110 notebook (4Gb RAM-i5 processor)2 weeks ago, on 15 October 2011 (it was a bad decision), the same day,it began freezing... Intel Turbo Boost Monitor rises to 2.90 Ghz, and freezes...
I contacted the seller, they didn't care.
I contacted DELL support, they accepted the problem and last week they changed the mainboard and the Hard Drive, but the notebook repeats freezing. it freezes 2-3 time in an hour for 1-5 minutes... The seller told me to use the FN + F2 combination to shut the bluetooth and the wireless connection, if I do it, the Turbo Boost monitor descreases from 2.90Ghz to "0 Ghz"..
My question is, can anyone in this forum using a Dell help me to fix my problem? Any idea? Because today I called Dell again (its the 4. time), they told me that they can change the notebook with a new one but it takes between 4-6 weeks. It is a long time....
I need to use this notebook because of my writings. So if anyone knows why this happenes, and the solution, please contact me.
Thanksssssss.....

Well you need to decide whether you want Dell to keep swapping parts until you can't return it, or just straight up exchange/refund it.
Does the freezing happen in safe mode? Have you tried running Dell Diagnostics? Have you tried re-imaging your laptop? -
Thank you for the answer,
First the seller re-imaged the notebook.
Than the Dell technician changed the hard disk and formatted it.
In each call (Dell technic service) we made diagnosticNo success
Thanks again for trying to help me.... -

Have you checked the temperatures? Cleaned out the insides of the laptop?
-
If your RAM is 2X2GB try removing 1 and see if it still freezes and if it does try the other stick on its own. (maybe worth a try)
-
I told about changing the Ram, the technician from Dell told that there is only one RAM 1x4Gb
and the RAM is not guilty he said, because it passes the diagnostic...
the seller installed speedfan program and it shows ~53-55C while freezing, I guess it is not so that much.. -
Hi,
I own the same laptop purchased 2nd hand from ebay (2 weeks ago).
Received it in clean restored original factory state with all it's bloat and drivers running.
The default config is not helping your freezing lagging seasons.
To me it sounds more like driver and or software related issue that's causing the grief.
The reason I say this on first boot of mine I was at the desktop and I couldn't even move the mouse pointer via touchpad for 1~2 mins even though the Alps touchpad icon in the systray was indicating I was touching the touch pad.
Task Manger -> Processes was showing me 87 processes running and escalating.
Task Manger -> Performance was showing 1.2GB of memory use and escalating.
At this point I hadn't even opened anything besides task manager.
Offensive to me software drivers were for the Intel Centrino Wifi/Bluetooth card.
Blindly installing this software driver adds nothing short of 16 new processes running every time you start windows not to mention new services are added and yep they are started when windows starts every time.
I manually registered the Intel Centrino Wifi/Bluetooth drivers only without all the extra fluff.
3 new processes, 1 new service and system feels more responsive to use and my wireless and bluetooth work as I need them.
Also Start Up software and drivers of my laptop was repulsive.
Between Intels Graphics hotkey and pref service, Nvidia 3 services and auto update, Windows Auto update, Dell Auto Update, Media Player Auto Update, Media Center Auto Update and every other bit of bs auto update all trying to get a net connection from the word go makes this laptop (and just about any other brand and spec laptop) grind to a crawl.
Then add in Windows Task Scheduler trying to hammer it's tasks on top of everything else turns your new laptop into just coping.
Now Add in Skype, Yahoo, Live, Steam, Origin, iTunes, Printer Software/Drivers, Digital Camera software and this laptop will start freeze and pause no matter how much memory you have.
I managed to get my laptop running like a dream, clean install Win 7 x64, Custom install all drivers and software and runtime libraries, turn off/disable crap you don't use.
So now boot up is fast and Processes @ 32, mem use at 540MB when I get to the desktop.
I don't get nagged or prompted with my actions and everything works as I need.
No freezes no pauses and everything is fast and predictable.
Couple of Tips may or may not help:
Alps Touchpad and drivers;
The touchpad supports multi finger gesture and movements, but it's glitchy to say the least and causes all sorts of lags and missed actions and use.
Turn off the multi finger and gestures.
The only reason I'd install the driver is so the mouse pointer will travel the distance of the screen in one swipe of the touchpad.
Once it's set, pull the alps touchpad driver entry from registry HKLM\....\...Run.
Intel/Nvidia graphics;
Update nividia drivers from Nvidia web sight as dells nvidia driver is outdated.
Use Nvidia Control Panel and assign which apps and games use Intel or Nvidia graphics chip
For example I had issues with Firefox default using Nvidia graphics causing freezes and pauses. -
Thanks a lot... I 'll try all...
Thanxxxxxxxxx -
Dear Smashly,
I read your comment several times, you made me aware of something... I downloaded all the drivers again, installed tham, than yesterday I disabled bluetooth and some other devices like as touchpad etc., made some settings... Since yesterday evening it didnt freeze, works sometimes slowly and the turbo boost rises, but no freezing (but it does not mean that it will not freeze again I guess) I will inform you about later situations.
Thankssss and regardssssssssssssss -
( Unfortunately it did again
I guess that it is related to BLUETOOTH because if I uninstalled all the bluetooth drivers, iti didnt freeze the whole day, but after installing all the drivers such as bluetooth, the quickset windows mobility center indicates that bluetooth is switched off, and if I try to switch on, it doesn't work. So I have to use FN+F2 to fix the freezing... the bluetooth on/of button is not functionalSo maybe it means the hardware is out of order and the system freezes...
(The freezing screenshots are attached)
By the way unluckily I try to find the solution (for the 20 days young Dell Notebook) somewhere in internet, the service doesn't care
I got not even 1 call from Dell
Wait wait wait...

You know you have 21 days to return your notebook.
Did you check the BIOS setting for something relating to bluetooth? Also sometimes powerplans mess with device settings. Windows 7 was written for better battery life, disabling things like Bluetooth until you actually needed them. -
I tried everything.... It helped only "the freezing frequency decreased..." But it goes on freezing...
I today called DELL again, 20 minutes, they only told me to call them again in 2-3 days))
Now my slogan is: "Never Never Dell Never Again"(((((

In windows set max processor state to 99% to disable turbo boost
Do that in the power manager.
Make yourself angry. I got a escallated brand new N5110 from my warranty as a Studio 1558 replacement. If you make yourself angry they will give you a new laptop much much faster. Just be angry at them. For me it took max 2weeks until I had my new system. -
barishak: just tell me what brand of HDD u using? if seagate u need find the latest firmware to flash it. now check ur task manager. did u saw rundll32.exe?
-
if u r using seagate with 5400rpm freezing few sec is common issue. all u need is quiethdd if u don't wish to change hdd or out of warranty. if u change hdd to other brand like hitachi, WD or etc.. still can't solve the freezing issue then followed the step below.
Tsunade_Hime can't help u much if u r inspiron user. he/she will tend to said no problem at all..
once u installed quiethdd.. run it as admin > it will appear at taskbar there > right click it & choose disable the hdd apm now. -
barishak: follow this step..
1st of all dun click the "GAME EXPLORER" at the start menu there! (u get what i trying to said) follow this 2 link
kuyadoconcept.blogspot.com/.../terminate-not-responding-game-explorer.html
kuyadoconcept.blogspot.com/.../disable-game-explorer-feature.html
2nd supportapj.dell.com/.../driverslist.aspx upgrade ur bios to A15 (compulsory) u need insert ur battery & use power brick adapter & close all program that running (don't turn off ur power when during/after installation) when is done ur lappy will auto-restart!
3rd if u playing old game like counter strike (open task manager) u will notice rundll32.exe is running then u should END PROCESS it! kuyadoconcept.blogspot.com/.../store.html *download kudayo explorer restarter to disable all time* so u no need so troublesome
i'm dell inspiron 15R N5010 user & my lappy still kicking strong. as long ur lappy at underneath got some ventilation then it might help a lot. even though germany ambient temp r cooler than M'sia. i bought Zalman NC-2000 at amazon germany cos my cousins stay there. around 40-50 euro only! so a cooling pad r badly needed!
for those having issue on N5110 i suggest returning it cos might due to sandy bridge issue! i know a guy having hang + lag issue when inserting pendrive for transferring files & write/copy sry i can't help!
still got any issue just share v me i will tried my best to help u guys out! respect~ -
