    Hi,

I recent purchassed an xps 1530 (win vista ultimate 32bit), and am having major problems with wifi. I am able to connect to networks just fine when the comp boots, but will frequently lose my connection. Sometimes I can stay on the network for as long as 5 hours, other times as long as 10 minutes. Also, as soon as I disconnect, my comp is unable to reconnect, or detect ANY other networks in the region (i usually can pick up around 20). The only thing that fixes this is a restart.

I have the latest drivers for my wireless card from dell.ca (my card is an Intel(R)PRO/Wireless 3945ABG), so this is not a problem. Does anyone know what may be causing this? My friend seems to think it's vista's fault. Please someone help, or at least tell me I'm not alone.

Head over to Intel, and get the latest wifi driver. I remember back when I had issues with my internet and found out that Dell is terrible and keeping up-to-date or stable third-party drivers.

My laptop kept disconnecting because of the power settings when I first got it. If you are on the power saving scheme the computer will lower the wifi signal unless you configure it.

I've been over to Intel's site, but their latest driver already came with my system and gave me the same problems. I'm pretty sure the router isn't the problem either, as when I disconnect I am unable to detect ANY networks in the region, not just my own (firmware is up to date, though). My computer is not on powersave mode, its on performance (its plugged in all the time).

I am using the vista built in wireless network manager. Please, does anyone have any more ideas as to what the problem is? I'm planning to do a downgrade to XP today to see if this fixes the problem.

    EDIT: I'm using a D-link WBR-2310. It's vista compatible.

    Hi !
I'm having the same problem wit the XPS 1530 I just received : very short but very frequent disconnections (sometimes every 2-3 minutes). The disconnections only last a few seconds : my browser can't connect to a website, it takes a few seconds for the systray icon to show I'm disconnected, and then it reconnects almost immediately.
I did not check my drivers, but I guess they will be up-to-date. I'll try to contact Dell, but I hope I won't have to send my laptop back.
If someone has an idea or an answer from Dell, please post it. Thanks !
