    Hello,

I just completed a fresh install on my XPS M140 notebook. I have only installed the necessary software and drivers. Everything is running fantastic, however, the screen resolution is not as clear as it was before the install. Right now, the highest resolution I can select is 1024 x 768...before the install both numbers were above 1000.

Again, i have only installed the bare bones drivers and necessary software during this install. This includes the video card drivers. Anyone who knows anything about Dell system restore disks have any idea as to a possible program I should install that might fix this issue?

    Thanks for any help!

I believe the xps m140 only was offered with a wxga screen. Intel 900 graphics.

    EDIT: have you installed this?

For some reason, I thought they offered two.

Anyways, your video card driver should have made it where you can make adjustments. Eventhough you've already installed, try downloading it from the link vespoli gave and reinstalling it in Safe mode in XP. If the video card driver installs correctly, the screen resolution and DPI can be adjusted.

Not sure on what screen I have, I will look at the original paperwork.

In regards to the driver above, I only installed the drivers that were on one of my system restore disk. I will check out the link above and check back in.

    Thanks for the replies.

Be careful with the drivers on the disc. For one they are outdated usually. Second, the discs don't detect your hardware properly. Somethings that are checked shouldn't be and somethings that should be are not checked.

You might want to check your device manager and make sure that all of your hardware have matching drivers if you have not done so already.
