Anyone else have this problem? My new 1705 laptop - the buttons on the front - I'll boot it up, try to adjust the volume using the handy little buttons on the front of the laptop: NOTHING. This doesn't happen all the time, sometimes it works and you get the volume thingy come up and you can change the volume.
Other times, and this is the annoying part, it does nothing, and even when I try to adjust the volume by clicking on the icon on the lower right of the screen, I get a huge error about sound drivers not being installed or some such crap.
    Sometimes it works, sometimes not.
    What is UP with that!?

have you tried uninstalling/reinstalling your audio drivers?

(don't know how/why this would affect the media buttons as they are not driver dependant, you may want to see if there's an updated BIOS on dell's support site)

did you recently reformat? then go to the dell support site and download ur audio chipset drivers, and also, this is what i do, make sure quickset is running in the taskbar.

You don't need Quickset running in the taskbar, only if you want to see the volume bar. As for the buttons, do they light up when you press them?
