As noted in another thread, I've gone around the bend with Dell on my lousy Samsung screen they will not replace. I'm in the midst of deciding whether to keep it, or toss it back to them and go to another vendor. It is frustrating that Dell doesn't seem to give a darn about losing a customer, when it is so unnecessary. Part of me thinks returning it would just be akin to cutting off my nose to spite my face, but the other part of me hates to have spent that much money on something I feel so dissatisfied about.
All that said, I wanted to poll the assembled here: If you had an XPS M1530 w/T7500 CPU, 3GB of RAM, GeForce 8600 w/256MB and a 160GB HD, and needed a 1680x1050 screen, what comparable non-Dell options would you consider? What about non-XPS Dell options? (Right now, my opinion of Dell isn't too swift). Through some employer discounts and a one-day promotion, I was able to get my system for just over $1,300 shipped, and I don't know if I can get quite that package anywhere else for that price.
Good competing options? Or do I just bite my lip and keep what I have?
Appreciate your input. Afraid I'm a little biton Dell for a while.

I faced a similar dilemma.
After a lengthy research of most brands and configurations including extended 3 year warranties, I found no other manufacturer that I could configure the same components for the same or even close price.
The other problem that I face is that I refuse to purchase a Sony or an HP due to the problems that I have had with their service in the past. This limits my choices.
I have purchased many Dells and have never really had any problems with desktops or laptops other than my recently expired Inspiron 5150. Even with the problems that I had with it, I was able to squeeze out 5 years of good service out of it after returning it two times for repairs and replacing the hard drive myself.
I think that you will find the same dearth of customer service after the sale no matter which computer manufacturer that you patronize. Given the lack of after purchase concern, you might as well save money on the front side with Dell. -
I honestly don't think that you will be happier by moving. Dell makes great computers for the best price. I can nearly promise you that you won't find a comparable computer for the same price. I have a Samsung screen as well but I think it looks fine.
Frustrated with Dell: 15.4" laptop options?
