I have a D600 with a 60gig Fujitsu drive in it. Been seeing a few incremental startup/data issues. I have never been a fan of Fujitsu pc hardware. Thinking about upgrading to a seagate 7200 100gig, looking for justification. What is the general consensus on Fujitsu drives ?

    thanks

    Derek.-

I wouldn't go as far as to say that Fujitsu is junk - of lower quality, maybe :)

You might want to check out Hitachi's 7200rpm HDDs instead; Seagate is a faily new-comer to the 2.5" 7200rpm arena while as Hitachi has been making them for years - not sure if it's coincidence, but when I bought 2 of them last year (the Seagate 7200rpm), 1 was making loud schreaking noises from the get go - which I swapped for a Hitachi a month after; then the other was still making said noises and died a couple months after.

Seagate being new to the arena of 7200rpm 2.5" hdds - I'd hold off from getting thiers until a year or 2 down the road (especially with my experiences).

I've had two fail in the past. One on a D600, the other on a D610. Too small a sample to call them "junk", but I personally wouldn't purchase one if I had another choice.

I have had a couple of instances where the machine didn't boot, sounded like the drive wasn't spinning up. Ran all the diagnostics and things checked out. Wasn't sure if these things had tell tale signs like the older Hitachi/IBM drives with their "clicks of death"
