    Which would improve performance more?

    Upgrade Dual-Core CPU from 1.83 - 2
    or
Upgrade RAM from 533 to 667?

Also, I'm assuming all E1705 RAM is removable and upgradable (is from 2x512's to 2x1G's) Am I correct?

    Thanks Guys

i would go with 2.0, then get the ram from somewhere else if you can find 667. I'm sure newegg.com has it for a good price, but i haven't checked lately.

yes, you can upgrade the memory. It is more expensive to buy the memory thru dell versus buying it from somewhere else.

I would also go for the duo 2.0. The CPU is hard to upgrade, where down the line you can always buy some RAM from newegg or zipzoomfly. But have you considered the HD? If you havn't already, I'd recommend upgrading from a 5400 to 7200RMP HD.

i think that depends on which processor you have. If you've got dual core 1.83, then that should be good enough to play most games. It would be best to upgrade to 2gb of RAM in the near future. If you got 1 stick of 1gb, you can find another stick for good price at newegg.com

If it is single core, I don't think you notice a huge difference between 1.83 and 2.0. I'm not sure about the dual core difference. I just always recommend to get the highest processor that you can because it is the hardest part to upgrade.

Agreed, go with newegg if you can. There wont be a massive difference between 1.83Ghz to 2Ghz but its still good.

I'm guessing the RAM upgrade would make a huge difference, but would there be much point in getting a HDD upgrade jason? The exrtra RAM is plently and would minimize the amount of virtual memory.

He suggested that because the 7200rpm drives run alot faster than a 5400 or 4200rpm drive. The higher the speed, the better the performance.

7200 and 5400 dont have much of a difference. Though whatever happens do not get 4200rpm.

I would suggest 2.0Ghz, 5400RPM hard drive, and atleast 1GB Ram to be all set for a year.

The fact is chimy, I think your laptop is great as it is it....and I do think the performance is good enough for high-end gaming. Do you really need an upgrade?
