I have recently purchased a XPS M1210 and i was wondering if I will really use the NVIDIA GeForce Go 7400 graphics card I bought. I don't really do a lot of gaming, maybe Empire Earth 2 every now and then, but i will more than likely be running CAD programs, SolidWorks and AutoCAD. So will the graphics card be useful for my purposes?

Yeah, the GeForce Go7400 should run those CAD programs with no trouble at all.

I thought Quadro (like the ones on the Precision or Latitude system) was designed specifically for CAD.

the quadro or fire gl is the best choice for cad, there will be some things you cant do with a consumer card, the main difference is the drivers, and the fact that most high level software packages wont offer support for consumer level cards. The quadro and fire gl cards are designed to crank out highly accurate renders, with less emphasis on speed, consumer level cards are designed to spit out raw frame rates with little regard to accuracy. If this is going to be your primary work machine, I would reconsider and look at the precison or lattitudes, if this is a secondary on the go with a little light work on the side type machine, you should be just fine.
