I'm strongly considering getting an m1530 dell laptop and I was wondering one thing about the M8600GT vid card. If you check on Nvidia's site, they clearly state the card has "Dual-link DVI outputs for digital flat panel display resolutions up to 2560x1600" but dell's m1530 features an hdmi port only... This is my first laptop purchase ever so do they make any modification to the card so it fits in the m1530 or do you have acces to those DVI outputs directly?
-
The m1530 has no DVI output just HDMI but it's not a big problem because you can go to Best Buy or Amazon.com and buy a HDMI to DVI cable.
Here is a link

Thanks for the info
Do they actually modify the card since Nvidia says it has a DVI outputs? -
Do not buy cables at bestbuy/circuitcity/etc!
Best bet for cables is monoprice.com
just type in hdmi dvi in the search box and you'll find what you're lookin for, and itll be a hell of a lot cheaper (as in $4 vs. $60 for the bestbuy link above). -
I don't know for sure but since it doesn't have the DVI. Most likely it's just a a mobile version of the 8600 so it just has diffrent ports to fit the diffrent uses of a laptop.
Personaly I like the HDMI port on the M1530 because I'm getting the blu-ray and I can easily connect it to my HDTV. -
-
Is there such a thing as cable quality to make sure you lose no quality?
-
HDMI is a digital connection. It works or it does not work. It's all 0 and 1's.
-
if you are wondering where exactly that dual DVI goes...
There's a LDVS (the signaling spec of DVI) connection (the single or dual DVI, i don't think 15" res screens need dual) to the built in screen. In notebooks, the graphics card usually can't get close to the edges of the case, so they route the HDMI/LDVS and other signals through the properitary dell connector (probably based on some MXM spec, but with different pin placement) and through the motherboard to the HDMI header, S-Video Header, and to an internal header for the LCD. -

I don't think so..........what res is your LG screen? i've seen hdmi to dual link dvi, but i don't know if the hdmi has to be dual link too, and if that means that there have to be 2 hdmi connectors......
http://www.practical-home-theater-guide.com/hdmi-cables.html
this site says that u need a 29 pin hdmi connector to get dual dvi. -
You are scaring me now this is my screen:
http://ca.lge.com/en/products/model/detail/lcdmonitors_l226wtqsf.jhtml
It goes up to 1680x1050 which is the native resolution. That would be stupid, I can run this in DVI digital on my 6600GT on my desktop, now I would have a better vid card but because of HDMI, I would downgrade :x -
Can someone that owns a m1530 can actually tell me how many pins the HDMI connectors has ? (19 for A and 29 for B)
-
i think you should be covered -- single link hdmi does up to 1080p, which is 30 pixels below your screen.
-
A few things:
1. Just because HDMI is digital doesn't mean that it's flawless. There is a picture and sound quality difference between a $5 cable and a $100 one, though usually not enough to justify the price.
2. I don't know why you would need a dual-link DVI for your LCD. Maximum resolution for TVs (normally) is 1080p, which can easily be handled with HDMI and the 8600m GT. -
How do you transfer (calculate) a resolution to 1080p?
-
It's 1920x1080 or 16:9.

Just sounds really weird to me that you pay for a 8600 gt which has "Dual-link DVI outputs for digital flat panel display resolutions up to 2560x1600" and that because Dell puts it into one of their laptop with an HDMI type A adaptor, you get back to single link.
-
An 8600 GT is different from an 8600m GT. An 8600m GT only offers support for DVI-D. It doesn't have "Dual-link DVI outputs". Not to mention that you don't even need it.

* Dual-link DVI outputs for digital flat panel display resolutions up to 2560x1600
* Dual integrated 400MHz RAMDACs for analog display resolutions up to and including 2048x1536 at 85Hz
* Integrated HDTV encoder provides analog TV-output (Component/Composite/S-Video) up to 1080i/1080p resolution
* NVIDIA nView® multi-display technology capability
* 10-bit display processing
I'm not the one stating it, Nvidia does -
Well, then they missed the asterisk stating that it's up to the computer manufacturer to actually provide physical outputs.
-
Yup and as I can see, your Asus does not have this issue
-
? It has the same HDMI as the m1530.
-
Don't you have a natural DVI-D output though?
-
Just HDMI and VGA.

Weird the review here said there was one -
The old G1 did, the G1s does not. They probably got the specs from an older G1 model.

Ok, anyway it's not that big of a fuss if it's not needed to run on my 22 inches screen

Hey guys,
I have a Dell 3007WFP which does require DVI-D. I'm considering this laptop. But I really want to drive the LCD with my laptop. Has anyone actually hooked these two up? or hooked up the m1530 to a display that requires DVI-D (other 2560x1600 monitors)?
Thanks,
