I know the system isn't that old. But you know how it is in the tech world. I have a inspiron e1705 I will list the specs below. I just wondering how many out there are still using this system faithfully. My systems is still running smoothly, but I just made a trip out to a my local tech store "Micro Center" & saw alot of new desktop replacement laptops. I've been out of the big laptop world for awhile since my everyday comp is a xps m1330 which I am thinking of selling since i just fell in love with the upcomming alienware m11x thats coming out soon since I only get about 3.5 hrs of battery on it with a 9 cell & was looking at getting a netbook but hate screens less then 11'. Well if the alienware is close to what they are predicting the m1330 is gone. But as of the e1705 its pretty much maxed out, do you think its worth selling and upgrading to something new or just sticking with it, or I wont get much for it.

moral hazard Notebook Nobel Laureate
It's not bad. I would sell it though.
But I wouldn't buy the crappy m11x when you can get a normal gaming notebook for the same price (think MSI and barebones).
By the way, your 8400m has a known fault and will fail (google G86 core fault). I would sell that too before it dies. -

Your 1705 beats my Studio in every respect (Except HD space) I'd hang onto it as a "daily driver" if I was you

Do you guys think its a good buy I just bought a XPS M1710 off of ebay. Its in like mint condition. I love the design of the E1705/M1710. I had my E1705 for about 4 yrs but lately when i look at the program I8kfangui the video card been running about 70c at idle and around 82c when i doing standard stuff, the fans stay running at high speed. I cleaned the fans and the whole 9 I think the video card is going. but the specs are below let me know what you guys think of the buy. I bought it because i heard such great stuff about the nvidia 7950 gtx I know its an old card but i don't much pc gaming. & i see this video card still goes for like $300-$400 on ebay. I i just wanted something because I am going back to school soon and need something for autocad. Plus I work parttime at a photo studio & do some photo & video editing.
Price: $619.99

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
I mean, if you like the design and all, there isn't really a reason not to keep the machine... but I would seriously consider replacing the 7950 while it's still working. Those things drop like flies thanks to the Nvidia GPU fiasco, but as you have noticed, they fetch quite a price while they're still good.
Sell the 7950 and get an X1400 or something... and you'll have gotten your XPS significantly cheaper on the whole -
That's not bad for the XPS 1710 - the 7950 GTX is still better than the ATI 4570 that's mainstream on the Studios today, if you don't need DirectX 10. Commander Wolf has a good point, though - if you sell the 7950 GTX, buy an ATI 1400 and put it in, and sell the XPS 1710 again, you might be able to turn a profit on the whole enterprise. OTOH, the 7950 GTX will serve you well, better than a 7900 GS, especially if the latter is on the way out. If you decide to keep the XPS, you can probably swap out the CPU, HDD, and RAM from your Inspiron, and then sell the Inspiron for a few hundred dollars depending on the condition. Sell it for $300 and you're looking at a somewhat pricey upgrade to the 7950 GTX and XPS line; sell it for $500 and you're looking at a pretty good deal on the upgrade.
The mx11 is a somewhat awkward fit with either the 1705 or 1710 IMO. Its GPU is slightly better, but its screen is much smaller - I'd probably rather game on the 1705 or 1710. And if you want portability and battery life, there are better and cheaper options out there. The 1330 isn't the ideal for portability or battery life, so looking into other options there is worthwhile, but I doubt mx11 is ideal if you already have a desktop replacement. -
well I got my m1710 & love it the only thing is the screen was a lil on the dark side even at full brightness. But a friend of mines is a dell tech and got me a new WUXGA screen & looks great. I did a couple of upgrades I will list the speaks below. So I will definitely be selling my E1705 its in mint condition had all the bezel and palmrest replaced recently. & probably will be selling my m1330 for a alienware m11x because I need something wit better battery life and a backlit keyboard.
