OK, I've got an Inspiron 9400, two weeks old, that I've been fiddling with.
I had all passwords - Admin, System, and Hard Drive, set with the same password.

Anyhow, I decided I'd change the service tag, just to see how it looked in the BIOS.
My problem is that after changing the service tag and rebooting, my hard drive doesn't recognise my password. Both Admin and System passwords are clear (not set).

I think that the service tag utility wipes the eeprom chip, and that now the information on the chip doesn't match the information on the HDD.

    Does anyone have any ideas?

You'll need to contact dell on this matter, and they can help you out.

Sorry, but we can not help with password problems because of laptop security and theft.
