Get e1405 or wait for XPS M1210?

Aside from the obvious screen size difference (14" vs. 12") and the inclusion of a dedicated video card, is it worth waiting to get the M1210? I'm on the verge of getting a pretty loaded e1405 (T2500 Duo Core, 1GB RAM, 100GB HD, DVD RW, etc.) because I can get $850 off with coupons...total would be around $1175. Thanks.

Well, being an XPS system, the coupons will be different, and, depending on how you look at it, not as good as the Inspiron coupons.

While my wife would have wanted a 12" over a 14", she wanted as much power as she could get for a low price. That meant the e1405 with $850 off after coupons.

The XPS is probably going to be just as good a system (better if you want to game and like small), but I doubt you could put what you have in your e1405 config for anywhere near the same price in the M1210.

That's what I was thinking. XPS coupons are so hard to come by. I'd probably be in the $2k range with it configured the way I want it. I don't do that much gaming, but I was more worried if the Integrated Intel video would not be able to handle the Aero UI of Vista. Thanks for the reply.

Vista is many months away, and that is without yet another delay. Plus, given Microsoft's track record, immediately updating would be asking for trouble.

I am going to wait at least until SP1 before I move to Vista. XP does everything I need it to do, so there is no point in upgrading any sooner.

Remember we still don't know for sure which graphics cards will be able to handle the GUI on Vista, unless you have another reason to need a dedicated card then just go with the GMA 950

I have been waiting for the E1405 and really like what I see in the M1210 so was considering waiting for one of those... I like the build, the video card, etc..... but ultimately they are going to be priced much higher....plus when it comes down to it, whether I'm in class or at Starbucks, a 12" screen just sounds like a pain in the @ss.....at least for the stuff I do. If you're going to be buying now, you should also take into consideration that Merom (Next Gen. Core Duo) will be coming out as will Vista....later in the year.... So personally I like getting an e1405 with 2gigs of ram, 7200 rpm hd, etc. all for an Insanely low price knowing that in 7 or 8 months I might need to ebay it to regear for Vista. The M1210 on the other hand is going to be more of an investment and might be worth it if you can deal with a 12" screen.... Personally a 12" screen is the deal killer, video card or not.....

Why can't they just have Asus make an awesome 14" notebook for them?

Looks awesome... and remember these $750 off coupons are not always around. They can be gone for a week or months depending on what Dell is up to. I mean my 600M / 1.4 pentimum m / 512 mb / 40gig hd cost me around 1700 THREE YEARS AGO and you are getting that for $1150???? That is insane. I'm buying an E1405similar to yours with a little more ram, docking station, and 2 year warranty and complete care for $1452 all out.....

I like the style of the E1405 and I know these things can take being hauled around every day..... these are just a great buy IMO. I don't even have a budget, if I found a better laptop for $5k I liked I would buy it in a second, but this is the one that works for me, pricing aside.

That is a good looking notebook. I got similar specs for my wife's. I do wish I had waited a day or so, and I could have gotten the 1GB RAM for free, and upgraded the warranty some. Oh well.

ASUS produces low quality laptops with high price, avoid it!

You have got to be kidding. You do have part of it right - the high price. But that high price brings high quality.

I own an Asus z70v. Rock solid. When I need to get another, it will be another Asus. The only reason my wife got a Dell instead of an Asus is price and financing.

Good luck with your Z70v. I have heard Z63a discolors at the palm area, Z71v has bad battery, Z70va has red ghosting and a lot of keyboard issues, stickers at the back, especially the serial number faded or erased (ASUS purpose design to avoid warranty?) during normal use, keyboards keys loosened out.

May I remind you, keep your serial no. in good condition (don't touch them)and your invoice in hand or you will have a door step!
