Seriously, is there a way to completely shutt off the HDD in vista? I tried the option where you can power off the HDD after a certain time. But that doesnt seem to work at all.

The hdd just heats up the left side of the system. It just annoys me because the system heats up within minutes.

Also is there a program where you can control the fans?

Exactly how hot does it get? There is no fan for the hard drive so adjusting them isn't going to cool it down.

Left side of the palm rest just gets hot enough for my left hand to start sweating. Its just annoying when the surrounding temp is warm and then the air from HDD is hitting the laptop's left surface.

I also noticed that the 250gb samsung 7200rpm hdd is bit lounder than the 200gb 7200rpm that used to come with the xps m1530.

Use a wireless mouse and keyboard at home.... end of problem. At least until your on the road. This also save wear & tear on your notebook. The keyboard/palm area finish is nice but isn't the greats for lots of use.

Your bigger drive must generate more heat. Mine is the 160HD 7200rpm and doesn't get hot.
