Ok, so a few days ago I received my factory outlet Dell M1530 from a supplier on EBAY. When I bought the laptop it had Vista uninstalled from it and and had windows XP with 'onenote installed onto it. There are stickers beneith the finger print scanner which prove that it previously had windows vista installed on it and on the underside of the laptop is a shiny microsoft sticker and the words product key ( with a key following it ). I was fully aware that the laptop was not windows vista when I bought it so I was not scammed. I guess this is the key used when trying to install vista onto the laptop.

Long story short how do I make my computer a vista running system rather than a XP running system. Im guessing the product key will enable me to get vista but where do I download the software from as I am not paying the £169.99 for the software when there may be a way around it.

    Many kind regards, Jack

There is still a recovery partition on that computer? If the XP install did not destroy that, you would be able to make a disc yourself using the files on that (usually D :) drive.

You could always just borrow a Vista disk from a friend or whatever. Just make sure that you install the version compatible with your key.

Ebay is not the best place to buy your notebook especially from people that you might not know too well. Be sure to look carefully into the details before purchasing your system.

As an XPS customer Dell will send you recovery discs one time for free. But buying it on eBay might be a bit tricky.
