Do I just call customer service and say I didn't get my XP Pro CD and then they will just send it?
-
I got 5 cds with my computer.
They are the Microsoft Office Small Business CD
The Reinstalling Sonic MyDVD and RecordNow
The Reinstalling Cyberlink PowerDVD
The Reinstalling Cyberlink PowerDVD 5.3.1012
The Norton Internet Security one
You were correct in assuming that I just want the CD that will install XP Pro again in case something goes wrong. -
Mitch,
The answer is just Yes! But ask for all your Cd's. Call tell them you want what I mentioned below. Say you want "all" your discs. You don't have to make up a reason. You can tell them if your HD fails you will need them. A reformat is not good enough. Mitch you really don't have to say much but insist politely.
Don't reformat until you get these, make our own backups, and know exactly what you are doing!!! There is no rush to wait another week, month ,etc...
What are you talking about? You mean because Dell now ships out the sytems withoout the OS disc/Driver/utlities etc...you want to know how to get them sent to you?
Tell me if I'm wrong!!!!
Dell doesn't send them out anymore with your system. I won't go into the reasons. I don't even know if that's what your asking.
All you have to do to get (3 discs all together come) your discs is call Dell and tell them you want them. That's it! They may say you don't need it because all the information is already on your PC. Tell them politely that you would appreciate them and if something happened to the HD ,you would need them. The XP operaing disc is included . I received 3 discs all together in 3 days. There is no charge and tons of people call all the time. Everyone (most people) wants the discs and have a right to them.
It's no big deal except another phone call.
If I'm wrong tell me because you didn't say much. If I'm correct ,let me know! OK?

Mitch,
Call don't bother with chat and you got what everyone else got! Exactly!!! Call Dell and ask for all your discs. Don't confuse them or yourself anymore with this issue!!! There is no charge! Everyone gets the piece of paper in a circle imitating a disc and the discs you mentioned.
Call Dell and say you got your notebook and want all of the discs!!!!
It's no big deal! I don't nderstand what is the mis understanding.
You know who I am. If I'm telling you this is simple and do this then just do it!!! It's so quick and simple.
I just sounded like I was ordering you but what I meant was call and ask, that there is nothing hidden or extra fancy that you have to do and just call. Please forgive me for ordering you.
I'm not being mean intentionally.............
You might as well have all your discs. They are yours and you have a right to them.
One last time. Call Dell and say I would like all my disc...OS disc/drivers...all of them (there are 3 that you will get)! If they say something and they sometimes try to say if your HD goes or your upgrading the HD you need them and/or just insist politely!!!!
Tell me if you understand and then call Dell!
Amber is right you may only get two ...the XP CD and the drivers CD
Heart
Post back to me if you've got it now!
Karma, It'll Get You!
Edited by me for spelling errors and sounding like I was ordering Mitch and being mean.......Not my intention! -
Mitch,
I'd like to know you're all set and that you see how simple it is! It's a simple phone call but they may try to talk you out of it and you have to not hangup and insist this is going to be resolved with you receiving your entitled CD's.

Heart...this is what they said to me...
{Jonathon 3:18:16 PM} The CD will need to be created from the system itself
'These CDs are not being Sent with the System from last September 2004
http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/kb/en/document?dn=1092314&c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19
Refer to the above link for documentation on creating the Operating system recovery CD
{Jonathon 3:19:55 PM} The CD can be Sent only if there is no option to burn a cd on the unit
and I insisted and said everything you guys said...lol I even said I didn't feel comfortable using my burner.
Any more help?? -
Yes, Call back and ask someone else! Tell them that you have if you're HD doesn't work nd you're upgrading the HD you will need your OS CD and the Drivers. See this is what SoutherGirl said somewhat...they give you trouble everytime. Including me! But you have the right to ask/insist. Call back and say that you need this and you're not hanging up until this is resolved. Tell them you understand what they are saying but it wont help if you don't have a HD! I know the link!
I have special friends and they still made me feel like it was wrong that I ask but after about 3 minutes they were on the way!
They always give you trouble! Always. Everyone on the forum can tell you that they probably had to push the issue!
That's what Southergirl was warning you about and I also told you they will do this! Don't hang up . tell them you'll have to speak to someone else and you aren't giving up. Mention the HD issue because if you don't have one working or are upgrading you need the discs (you would lke them...who doesn't) . If you mention Reformatting then they will send you to technical to walk you through it. That's why I said don't say that!
It's a royal pain but call back .Insist and don't hangup until you have it resolved no matter what they say. Take down names ,info in case they hang up on you! Most people went through this. They started doing this slowly in January, mainly February and by march it was fully changed to no more Cd's.

Hey Heart =P
Not to Jack this thread, I was wondering can you use this EXTRA CD or Backup on another notebook? like perhaps a I9300 or a Sony notebook?
I do feel it's our right to have an OFFICIAL Cd of our own. WHy? because it's our HARD earn money that where willing to buy thier products thats why. If Im not satisfied I will fight untill every Penny goes to good use than having a corprate company take my money for profit with less of a sale on my @$$
Face it, this is how we people fight back for our money how my parents are when they go to Best Buy as Asian people.
My Dad- My friend I'll buy this big Tv you give me a discount ok?
Best Buy- Sorry Sir I cannot do that, if you like we can toss in shipping?
My Dad- No, I want discount and free cables for this Tv.
Best Buy- Sorry sir I cannot do that but I could talk to my Maneger.
My Dad- No, I want this Tv with discount and cable or I wont buy. -
I hate to suggest lying, but you might have to do it in order to get it.
When you call them up, tell them that you reformatted your pc using Dell's backup utility. After you reformatted, XP would not start because it was missing some files. Whenever they suggest something, tell them it didn't work, and you would like to get the CDs.
Like I said, I hate to suggest lying. This will only take a few minutes to go thru, but at least you'll get your CDs within 3 days [].
-
yea, I definitely had to lie to get it.
so I got Nancy the second time and I say...my hard drive is messed up and I didn't get a chance to make a recovery disc. But I don't want to send it in because I was replacing it anyway. Then she says ok, we'll send them to you.
That easy with a different person! -
Yeah, they are really picky about it. I figure lying would be easier than you to keep calling. It also depends on who you get. I've gotten some techs that have aren't that good with troubleshooting, then some that are great.
I'm glad you finally got them. []

Mitch,
I've been gone for hours and I see you called back and are getting your Discs. Horray!!! I don't believe in lying and I wont do it because of my signature below. Basically I'm a true believer in what comes around goes around.
For me I can't chance it! I think that they make I so tough that there is no option but to express it has something to do with the HD that you would need your Discs for. It's not lying if you tell them that you can't do anything with their online restore features if you have a problem with your HD. That roght there should be enough! You're HD doesn't work and tons of people don't know to make a copy. I wont be. I wouldn't have if I did know! I will use Norton ghost or something to back it up to where I'm happy with it! My version.
The most important thing is you got it being sent to you with the second call! You didn't give up and you'll get your discs.
The following is going to be a long comment and an opinion from a Dell employee extremely high up! You have a right to them because you paid and bought your system assuming they would be included. Until march and it's still hard to find, Dell didn't post or tell anyone that they quit sending out the discs.
Mitch at least you're getting them! Do you feel like it was worth calling back again now? I'm happy you're getting them even though I don't believe in lying. I was on the phone with someone I know at Dell for personal reasons only around 7:00pm eastern and I mentioned this again and she still has to defend Dell first. I also told you "All" conversations are taped and at the call center she's at because they are the top Department (last resort) before the lawyers come into play. I wanted to tell her that this is getting ridiculous for people! She saids she was informed in March to start trying to explain to people from feeling like they would need the discs for any reason but she doesn't personally agree with it and her husband bought another Dell in March and wasn't happy either with no Discs. Of course she saids the same thing, that you need to mention that if the HD goes or something related that you will need your discs. Until Dell starts posting this in easy places to locate Dell is going to keep getting calls!
It did not start until mainly February (not Sept ...the Dell person was wrong because alot of them don't really know, they were not informed correctly or at the same time) and completely by the end of March which more than half of all Dell empoyees did not even receive notices !!! I bought a Desktop for two fiends . One November 29th ,One December 14th and my own 8400 Desktop on February 2nd all after September and they all had the discs.
I know this was long but it was somewhat to put "monkey" out of his misery with his questions and others hearing an opinion from someone who works at Dell as high up as you can go in the USA who just recently bought a new one and was not too happy about the disc situation!
Mitcher I'm happy you didn't give up and that you called back. I don't care that you had to come up with a story. I can't lie beause I don't need more problems but I'm not judging you on this one!
If I knew ahead of time they (Dell) wouldn't send them out, like during a phone order. Or after receiving my notebook without them I would say I wont be buying this computer unless you can find a way to include them........"Monkey" ! Dell is not going to refuse you these CD's until it is posted widely. Although, since the word has been getting in the news since the end of March through out April alot,it's going to become more difficult but no way impossible until it's posted right on the site or mentioned during a phone order. So there is going to be a way to get them for awhile longer.
People on this site just be aware and if you see this for the first time before placing your order, then make preperations ahead of time!
I hope all goes well Mitcher!
Best regards,
Heart [][

I used the internet chat took 10min received OS XP pro and Insprion software 2 disc total both were on Dell CDs with a MS installation manual. NO complaints about their service at least on this matter.
-
That's good. Do you mind telling me how you did it? Did you just ask for them?
We have several requests from users on how to get the disks, so this might be useful in the future.
Thanks,
~SG~
