    Hi all,

My 2-week old Studio 1558 freeze while I was updating the BIOS on 16/04 and then it wont start at all. I rang Dell on the next day and I was told that an onsite tech will contact and repair the laptop within 1-2 days. However, I didnt receive any phonecall from the tech up until today (27/04). I rang Dell and they told me that the tech still waiting for parts which may or may not arrive in 3-4 days.

At that point, I decided to ask for a replacement and Dell said that someone will ring me tomorrow to arrange the replacement.

    My questions are:

    1) Does anyone here can share their experience with the whole replacement process? Wondering if I can upgrade my specs.

    2) I didnt back up my hdd and wondering if there is any way to connect the hdd to another pc as my Studio cannot starts now. Inside the hdd are my latest photo and my own university notes :(

    Cheers.

1 - Depending on the availability of your system specifications, you may or may not receive an upgrade. It is really up to the manager who decides which machine you get. In my experience, I always got an upgrade whether it be a better processor or an extra GB of RAM. But for some people, they just got the same machine back.

2 - You can actually take out your hard drive and put it into an enclosure and back it up onto another computer. If you need steps just say and I will PM them to you.

    Hope this helps.
