I'm not sure, as I've read that people who bought their laptop from Best Buy won't be able to get the free upgrade, which means that the deal isn't universal for dell laptops. I might work with tigerdirect, and it wouldn't hurt to try.

When I enter in my service tag it says that this system is not eligible.

Their website says you must have purchased a computer between June 26th to december 09 and i bought my laptop late last month (no idea when tigerdirect got them)...

    Hmm

Call them. They should be able to help. They have to validate service tags after the laptops are sold and they're usually behind on that.

Man, if I'd have known about this in April, I would've waited.

It doesn't look like Dell is offering the Windows 7 upgrade on refurbished stock in their own outlet. Nothing on the Tigerdirect.ca site says these are eligible for the upgrade. I would imagine the service tag is not on the eligible list.

I think a safe assumption is that if a computer isn't advertised as coming with a free upgrade to Windows 7, it doesn't come with one. Since it's an important selling point, they wouldn't neglect to mention it.

The best buy guy that I spoke to said that it was being offered. I think it's only for laptops that they purchased from dell after that date, and you have to be careful to purchase that. Also, i really do think that the best way to know for sure is to call them and ask if they'll validate the service tag.

I called dell and they said that refurbished computers are not able to get the upgrade.

What ever, I'll probably end up downloading windows 7 anyways :)

^dell lied to you then. i just tried entering my info today and i was eligible for the upgrade. but then again i bought my refurbished laptop direct from dell through the outlet. it took 3 weeks for it to be updated in their system to allow me to sign up for the upgrade.

Dell did not lie to anybody. In different countries it is available on outlet items, in others it is not. For example in the US it is, in the UK it is not.

This might (and probably will) change with time, but as of the moment that is the way of things.

I bought my studio through the outlet and it said it wasn't eligible for the upgrade, but I called customer support and they ended up adding my service tag. It started out being the 32 bit Arabic version, but another phone call fixed it to 64 bit English.

I think they might not go through at first, because it has the date the computer was originally sold based on the service tag and that's where the issue is. My suggestion is if the website is saying it's no good, try calling them. They might give you the upgrade.
