Getting it cheaper?

I was wondering if anyone knows the best way to get additional discounts from dell. I'm a college student and I am interested in the Inspiron 15R 2nd gen with the core i7. Its on sale for 799, and I really want to go for it, but I am really wanted to spend a little less.

The other two posts look like spam...if you want to get larger discounts, getting a refurbished laptop from the Dell Outlet will bring the price down a lot.

I can think of multiple reasons that I would recommend against buying the Inspiron 15R.
- The chassis design is meh, as is the build quality. In my personal opinion, Inspirons are some of the cheapest looking laptops I see around my university campus.
- The screen is rather poor. 15.6" 1366x768. These screens make things onscreen rather large, and in addition typically have rather poor image quality (contrast, sharpness, viewing angles) since they're budget-grade screens. Productivity and multitasking (most of the average person's usage) tend to benefit more from a higher resolution screen than any other spec.
- The reason the price of that laptop is as high as $800 (which isn't really a "sale" price) is because you're looking at an i7 model. If you're getting the laptop for gaming, focus on the GPU instead of the CPU (assuming you're looking for performance because of gaming). If you're getting a laptop with an i7, don't get an Inspiron.
- You can get a better GPU than the 525M (what I think that laptop has) for the price range. The 525M is not that bad of a GPU for this price, but for the same price you can get both a better GPU and a better screen instead of getting the i7 processor.

I'd suggest considering the HP DV6z with the 1920x1080 display and the Radeon 7690M - $699

- This saved configuration has two upgrades: the Radeon 7690M GPU, and the 1920x1080 display.
- Don't downgrade to the 1366x768 display from 1920x1080.
- For the purposes of game performance, Don't downgrade the GPU.
- Consider upping the CPU to the A8. The A8's faster iGPU will benefit certain Llano-crossfire-compatible games.
- Apply coupon code NBR8787
- This is essentially the cheapest option to get a good screen and a good GPU at the same time.

 

Alternatively, a Dell Latitude from the Outlet would have better quality than either of those (along with a better warranty) for about the same price. HP has never been known for quality...

 

When I ordered my xps 17 laptop, I did a search for "dell discount codes" and managed to find a code for either 15% or 20% off (can't remember for sure) and also a code for free p&p. With the savings I got from dells ovver at the time and the discount codes I found, I managed to get the price down from nearly £2000 to just over £1000. I can't remember how much I saved in total but was a good deal or wouldn't have been able to get the spec I did.

 

I got an email from Dell Outlet yesterday about their Winter Savings Event with 20-25% off Dell Outlet Laptops. Here's the link to the page with coupon codes. Also, you can call them and ask for an additional discount. Make sure if you find one, you add it to your cart quickly and be ready to call as IIRC, it only stays in your cart for 15 minutes.
