Please, take a look and tell me if is a good deal or not...
Dell Small Business
- Core 2 Duo T7200 (2.00GHz, 4MB L2 Cache, 667Mhz)
- Windows Vista Home Basic
- 17" WUXGA, 1920x1200
- 2GB RAM 533Mhz
- 160GB SATA 5400RPM
- DVD+RW
- 7900GS 256MB
- Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N
- 80 WHr 9-cell Lithium
- 1 Yr Ltd Warranty, 1 Yr Mail-in Service, and 1 Yr Tech Support
I really don't bother with the OS, I know that the "Home basic" is sUx, but I'll probably put the WinXP SP2 or WinVista Business/Ulti. version.
I was wondering in what CPU get, the T7200 (2Ghz, 4Mb) or T5200 (1.6Ghz, 2Mb)... the difference is $150 and I really need to save money, but as I don't want to bother with upgrades soon, I've decided to get the T7200.
The WUXGA screen and 7900GS is a must, that's one of those reasons to buying this note, so I couldn't save money here. The 2GB RAM 553Mhz and 160GB 5400RPM came with the initially specs, so they're very welcome. I've upgraded the Dell Wireless to the Intel Next-gen N for +$59, I don't know if I did very well doing that, I hope so.
It was the 6 cell battery as standard, but I couldn't leave that as it is, then I chose the 9 cell to avoid future upgrades. And the warranty, unfortunately will remaing the same 1 year standard cause I can't pay CC.
Price was: $2,120.00 - $444 OFF
Sub-total: $1,676.00 + $83,80 (tax)
Total price: $1,759.80 ?
Good deal?

That's almost the exact configuration I was looking at, except with Vista Home Premium and no Wireless-N.
It's a good deal. It's a gamble whether or not dell will make it a better deal next week. Though the gamble is lessened with the ever present $400 off the whole month.
I heard if you call Dell, they will knock the price down even further. I'm thinking the price will lower the closer we get to the Santa Rosa/Geforce 8 series release date. If they make a new line of Inspiron notebooks, they'll likely want to unload E1705s and give us better deals. Just my theory. -
You might be able to save money by buying the least amount of RAM possible (Dell over charges for RAM) and go to newegg and getting 2GB there.
Then you could afford a better version of Vista and have Aero glass -- which is pretty nifty. -
Dell overprices their RAM and hard drives, so if you know how to install either (or both) of those on your own, save some money by buying them yourself instead of paying extra for Dell.

i used this same deal an got something pretty close to that.

If you can, match the ram speed with the 667 mhz FSB speed. Your system will run faster.....
-
Yes, but the RAM and HD was like "free" upgrade from Dell, there wasn't lower option available. For example, right now... the 160GB is gone =(, the 120GB got his place as default.
-
I know what you mean. Dell constantly changes the options. Try choosing one of the links from "Dell Coupons" at the top of this page. Or try picking a different e1705 system. Sometimes you can get different options and pricing with different preconfigured systems. Or better yet call Dell and tell them what you want. They are usually very helpful!

Hmm.. thx guys, but I was thinking today and... maybe will be a better deal buy a cheaper one from Dell outlet and then when the new Dell models (w/ Intel santa rosa) comes I can sell more easy the outlet one and buy the new models?!?!
But... I don't know if the new models will have a "nice" price like the currently offers... or if spend $1,700 for something that will be replaced in just few months is really worth.. =/
The problem is that I really need a note now. -
I hear you man! My philosophy is that if you need something, get it. You can stress all day about prices and specs but it will not remedy your immediate situation. And at the end of the day all you have is the stress. Technology is always improving so it is impossible always have the latest and greatest anyway. Get what you need now and don't look back. It will just drive you crazy.....
I just bought two new Dells. I am very happy with the deal I got and very happy with the systems too. I don't even look at new prices and specs. anymore beacuse it will not do me any good. I don't care. I just want to enjoy what I have and not second guess my choices....
Good luck!! -
Upgrading the ram on Dell is overpriced at $200.
However, I had issues with my HP/Compaq when I tried to install non-HP ram (I think I tried Crucial). It would beep and then shutdown after 10 minutes or so.
I think the timing on the ram has to be 5-5-5-15. Checking out Newegg, looks like Mushkin is the only one that says it has that and it's priced at $135 after $20 mail in rebate.
So you can save some money that route but if it doesn't work, then buying 2 GB of ram from dell as a spare part is around $300. I think it's a gamble personally.
As for the hard drive, you can get a 100GB 7200 RPM from dell parts for cheaper than it is to upgrade to that with the system. It's fairly easy to swap hard drives so no point in upgrading the hard drive when you buy the system. Dell's hard drive price when bought separately is in the same range as the price you'll find on Newegg so I don't understand how that is overpriced (unless just basing it off the cost to upgrade). -
I'm actually hoping the price on the current E1705 will drop as we get closer so I can buy what is currently available. In the performance to cost ratio, you'll get your best deals right before new tech arrives IMO. -
yes... that's true, I need that now and I can't wait for the time when they wanna show up the new line. I'll spend something like $1.650, hopefully be a good investiment and don't need to see upgrades for a long time, (2yrs?).
I'll place the order ASAP because I need it FAST, and hope Dell delivery it in maximum around 1 week
Thanks for comments folks. -

But apart from that, nice setup man! -
Yes... =(
I really wanted the 3yr CC... but I didn't have enough $$ to that :$
Can I upgrade for the CC (if it's not to expensive) after recieve the note?? -
Guys, I ordered last night, Sunday night, ... But until right now, I didn't recieve any e-mail from Dell about the order and in "My account" there isn't any order information... Is this normal?? :S
EDIT:
QUESTION: I have my order placed last night as I told above, but I didn't get any email or information about that in my account at dell.com. I also... ordered by dell small business, in the site ... I would like to know if you guys think that Dell can offer me the same specs BUT, with complete care and the same price.... if I call them and try something.
Because... I don't know what to do right now, I don't know if there was a problem in the order or it take more than 1 day to send the confirmation email. -
Sounds quite odd. Let us know how long it takes to get a confirmation email. I'm planning on getting a dell in the future.
I highly doubt you could get a longer warranty at the same price but if you can negotiate it, then give me a heads up. I'm planning on getting the 1 year/mail-in warranty only. I figure the money I save on not getting warranties on everything I own can be used towards replacing something that breaks. My dad has had his dell for 4 years and no problems. -
Bah... I'm sorry for tha man.
-
Well... I talked with them in the Dell chat and they just informed that there wasn't no order... |-)
Then, I had to place the order again, bah... I thought I would already waiting my notebook, now.. I got 2 days late.
Getting loaded Dell e1705 from dell.com, good deal?
