I am so happy right now, getting my first laptop very soon. I ordered it on dell on the 23rd, and it says it has shipped already today on the 26th! It says it should arrive around 31st. Didn't expect it so soon!

Anyway, what should I look for when I get my laptop in hand? I read something about grainy screens, what other potential problems are there?

Don't "LOOK" for any problems. if you see something blatant then complain, but if you go looking for anything possibly wrong then you will find everything is wrong...

Oh yes, do look for problems - you are paying full price and things should fully work.

It seems like a better idea if I know the problems right now, then realizing them after I am out of warranty.

Just test it with everything you intend to use it for and see how it performs, how it sounds, how the screen looks, whether it can connect to Bluetooth or wireless (if you're using those things) and maintain a connection. If you're going to use it to watch movies, put a DVD in it and see how it plays. Make sure there's no video or audio skipping. If you're going to game with it, try some games. If you're going to burn DVD's, do that.

ZOMG how do i know if my screen is grainy?

And I picked 2nd business day delivery. Is it normal when dell says it would use DHL ground service?

Listen to the man. Don't find fault on purpose. Most people, like me have read a lot of threads concerning the quality of the LCD screen. I swear if I haven't been here, I wouldn't have noticed it at all. Some people are particularly picky.
Of course, there are arguments on both sides "I paid all this money, I would want to have a perfect laptop". True but its going to be a frustrating experience having to send it back and then find your replacement laptop has the same screen.

My Dad ordered the 1520. I began to check for the so called "grain" right away after delivery. I could see it but my Dad can't. No problems for him then since it is his laptop.

Look at it. If it looks OK to you, it's fine. If it looks like someone smeared motor oil on it and you feel like you need to wipe it off, it's grainy.

Apparently. They did the same thing to me. They even do it to people who have one day shipping.
