I have an XPS M1330 with 2GB of ram. I don't do anything particularly intensive, web surfing, office and a little Photoshop. Would going from 2GB to 3GB of ram make a difference in performance? I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium.

For what you do, not too much, but it is definately a boost. I went from 2 to 3, but I do a little more stuff, ie gaming, vid editing and rendering, etc. If you want to upgrade and have the dough, by all means.

No, if you don't use the RAM, the difference will not be noticeable.

i don't think it would make much difference at this time

but as more and more apps come out to take advantage of dual core technology, you may want to upgrade a later date- so watch the memory prices and pick up 2GB instead of one- then you'll have 4GB all ready for x64 Vista.... ;)

Wow add me to the voice of dissent. ;) I gotta disagree especially when it comes to Vista. I have two DeLL laptops that came with Vista Premium and 2GB of memory. I have upgraded both of them to 4GB of ram and YOU CAN tell the difference.

    1) Quicker boot times.
    2) Programs open quicker
    3) Less disk access
    4) System overall is a little zippier

For anyone who uses Windows Vista I heartily recommend installing as much memory as possible. I bought 4GB of Crucial PC 5300 memory from Newegg.com for $73.98 with free shipping.

Doesnt Vista automatically attempt to use your ram as much as possible? Also, if you upgrade, you can do what i did and remove your pagefile and gain back that 2 gigs :D

OK I'll get the extra ram. I'd go for 4GB but since I'm running Vista 32 bit it will only utilize 3 GB.

But if you get 4 gb of ram you have future proofed yourself for any 64 bit operating system. If you get a hold of Vista Premium 64 bit media, you can use your 32 bit key to activate the 64 bit o/s. In other words, you already have the licence, you just need a copy of 64 bit Vista (maybe a friend has a copy, maybe downloading it off bit torrent?).

well iam using 3gb of ram and when i am not playing games the memory usage never goes above 50%(1.5GB) so i dont think you will benefit but ya the more the ram the nicer it sounds ....
