Hi everybody I'm a new member and was wondering if this is a good deal here is the link: http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?CS=19&kc=6V658&oc=DNPHFY1

Here is the specs: Core 2 Duo 1.83, 1gb ram, 120gb hd, 8x dvd burner,
Intel Pro Wireless card, Dell BlueTooth, 9-cell battery, and 1 year warranty.

It comes out to be 870 after taxes, I wanted to buy it for a Christmas gift for my girlfriend. The sell ends this friday so any comments would be good. My girlfriend is just going to use it for email, word documents, internet, and watching movies.

I want a decent laptop that is vista capable so your opinions will be very helpful thanks.

Well, the e1405 is a great budget notebook with an awesome amount of battery life, especially the fact that the only things it'll be used for is word processing and emails. If you haven't, you should use the 20% off dell inspiron coupons in the forum. The e1405 is very much included and all you need to do is to place the code where indicated. Good luck!

The 799 is already discounted from the original price of about 1100. I tried to use the 20% but it wasnt stackable. I think its a good deal but is 1gb of ram enough for vista because i think it comes with the free upgrade and i hope vista can run on 1gb of ram

Vista runs fine on 1GB. People will try to tell you it doesn't, but it does. I know from experience. But I wouldn't recommend upgrading to Vista for a few years. By then, you may be looking at a new laptop. Also, keep in mind, that RAM is upgradeable, so if you ever find that it's not enough, simply buy some more and put it in.

I only have 1GB in my E1405 and it runs fine.

By the way, looks like a heck of a deal!

Agreed...even though imma get the vista upgrade I dont plan on installing it at least until service pack 1 or something comes out to fix the bugs. I have media center on my 1505 and I really like it. This laptop should last my gf for a long time since shes not into technology. Her desktop is only pentium 3 so she better appreciate a duo core lol. I really like this deal so I'm probably gonna get it right now thanks everyone

Thanks also jeffrey I've been reading and keeping updaTed on your post for vista on the 1405 good work and much appreciated.
