I want to use my EPP coupon for a 9300.
I am able to get it with UXGA, 512 ram, 128 radeon x300, 40 gig hd, and dvd burner for $1087. This includes tax and shipping.
I've been pricing them for the last couple of months with the various coupons, and this seems to be a good deal. I was thinking of adding media center edition xp, but I don't know if it is of any real use to me.
I'm not adding any software packages or accessories to it.
I would have liked to have changed the video card to the 6800, but the 128 radeon is the only option.
Still, is this a good sounding deal??

Yea, but the x300 is horrid.
Wiat a tad, get the one with nvidia 6800.
Difference is unexplainatory. -
the onli main reason 2 get the 9300 is for the 6800 nvidia graphics card...for future use..b/c if not...then jus get a 6000...wit better specs in it for the same price..even if u do want the 128 MB X300...it's in the dedicated dell 6000 laptops
-
I just received my 9300, for more than you paid, even with a 750 off coupon; however, I have a x300 card in here and I am now starting to worry. I'm not a gamer, but I do work with CAD and stuff. Aren't I able to upgrade this card at a later date? I realize now that I ought to have purchased my memory separately and gone with a better card, but I was under the impression that the video drivers were not difficult to upgrade. Am I mistaken?
-
horrid, that's funny
the reasons most people buy a 9300 is for the vidcard or the 17" size. if you don't care for the vidcard, but like the 17", then you'll be ok... if, however, you want max gaming performance, you want the 6800 card.
if you don't want the 6800 card or the 17" screen, then this notebook is not necessarily for you since it's quite large.
if this notebook fits your needs and you are happy with the price, well then, you should be just fine. -
sry man...u can't upgrade ur X300 at a later date..cuz it's by ATI...and it onli supports the X300...and ur BIOS won't support any later cards either..and if ur under the 21 day return limit...i suggest u return ur laptop now!!!!!....and get the nVidia graphics card...and upgrade the RAM urself and u would save even more money!!!!...but if not...then i gess ur stuck...and that su**s....well...good luck if ur still within the 21 day limit
-
Actually, i spoke with Dell and they reassured me that I could upgrade at anytime by ordering the part from "spare parts" and then making some upgraded software changes to the bios. So, it is no big deal in their opinion. I'm glad to hear it.
-
but that is only for the 6800...u can't upgrade it to a higher ati card...and i think it would be easier if u just got the system with the 6800 card

wait they are wrong??

Glad I waited for the 40% off coupon instead....got the 6800 with WUXGA. So I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of the stork.

Well, I had certain things to take in to consideration when I purchased this machine, not too long ago. First and foremost was cashflow, and what I consider a worthwhile expense for a computer. I wanted to keep my entire expenditure below a certain amount and was willing to sacrifice the size of the video card as I am not a gamer. Secondly, I was unaware of a 40% coupon being available at the time of purchase. I did, however, get 750 off, with free shipping, so I thought that was a pretty good deal and helped me meet a deadline for this machine.
So, this is what fit my budget and needs, at the time. I once purchased a 486, with a DVD and the "ultimate video card," for $2,600 only to not full use of the video card and to have the pentium chip come in cheaper within a few months. I'm not about to make that sort of mistake ever again. Better to upgrade as I need than to get everything thrown in.
So, sure I believe them. I'm within my time limit and I've purchased several computers from them in the past. If it is too much of an issue, they'll hear from me. -

I think you really got to do your homework before you decide which components to buy......if you know you are going to do mucho graphics work, even though you are not a gamer, it's probably the best bet to pay for the better graphics card. After hearing how the x300 is pretty bad, and after reading that it isn't even as good as the GeForce 4 I have in my desktop, the 6800 was the only way to go since I want to do heavy digital photo editing.
And I'm hoping the Wuxga screen is more or less like looking through a window. I've seen a similar screen on the sony and I could not believe the resolution.......even though that one is probably better than the Dell's....right???
:decision: -
i think yes...but still...u said resolution..not the quality of the screen...there's a big diffference

Before purchasing my 9300 I thought about going with the x300 to save money then buy the 6800 later, to do so will cost you hundreds of dollars more and that is if they even have one for you to upgrade to. calling spare parts, they didnt have any spare parts. you are much better off buying your 9300 with the nvidia 6800 go card now, using a 750 off coupon you can get a great deal on the 9300, the video card is not something that you want to skimp on believe me. -
-
When it comes down to it, get what you can afford and what you think you will be happy with for what you will be using it for. If you got a balance of both price and performance, then you got a good deal. -
Well I got my 9300.......with nvidia card, wuxga and media center. If I can change one thing, I would get a bigger hard drive.....I was appalled to see that 16gb was eaten up by the time I got it. If I would have known about this before hand, I certainly would have ordered a bigger hard drive. I don't put too many programs into my computers so I didn't think it would be a problem, but now I do.
The wuxga screen is good EXCEPT for certain websites, where yes, the text is small. There is also some uneven brightness on the screen...but it seems typical of many laptops. I don't know if I should return it because of this or not. I know time is running out.
Media Center looks interesting....I have to check it out more. It may prove to be useful in the end after all. -
THIS IS NOT TRUE, he can upgrade to a 6800 go card, It will cost you more because you didnt order it to begin with, many users have been able to trade in their x300 cards for some price concession, I recommend getting the 6800 card especially for cad/cam, and doing a clean install of your system to get rid of those nasty ATI drivers and other bloatware on your system.
YOUR BIOS will not be a problem, you can always upgrade your BIOS TOO. If you are in the 21 return window, you could though return the whole system and reorder with the 6800 go maybe catch a good coupon deal while you are at it, buy your ram elsewhere and save a hundred dollars at least@ -
HELLO, Dells' bios wont support the 6800 card when they offer the 6800 card on the 9300, am I missing something here??????
YES IT WILL SUPPORT THE 6800
Good Price for 9300?
