This is the first laptop I have ever owned without a matte finish and this screen is making me nuts. I don't like seeing the window behind me while I'm typing on my computer -- quite annoying.

Is there any good film or anything that one can get to anti-glare this screen without messing up the way it looks (colors, etc?).

And as an aside, this trackpad is the worst of any I have ever used. It is not very sensitive.

And its for that reason that I went with an anti-glare coating. Glossy screens just defeat the purpose of "anti glare" which is stupid.

Edit- You can acutally buy anti-glare filters

The m1530 has a glossy screen with antiglare coating (1680x1050). This is what people are complaining about is that it looks grainy. My HP glossy is reflective and harder to work with with lots of lights especially behind you. Glossy screens are nice because the colors comes out more vivid/saturated in the right lighting condition. I bought a matte HDTV due it's right across a window and if I've gotten a glossy I would have to close the blinds.

The glossy screen does look really nice - until you start using it in daylight!!!

I tend to close my blinds when Im using my M1730 - I can then use it for basic tasks etc. However, I tend to game or watch movies in the eveining - after work and when the kids are in bed so I dont get any glare and the picture looks awesome ;)

I dont think there is any decent anti-glare coating you could apply yourself - nothing that would look nice and keep the sharpness of the screen anyways.
