Hello everyone. I am looking for a good price on a E1705. I am going to use it at home mainly. My requirements are as follows:

Fast hard drive (7200RPM - at least 60GB).
2GB of RAM - I will probably get from newegg
    Good screen
    DVD burner.

Can I get away under a grand possibly? I missed the 35% sale, waited too long. Any chance I can still get something reasonable before Sept? Thanks.

No way you can get that for under a $1000...you should be able to squeak away with $1300-1400 if you find the right deals...just out the forums here and at slickdeals.net

You didn't specify a particular CPU or GPU, and a "good screen" is rather subjective. Some people don't like gloss, some do.

    I just spec'd this out:

    Coupon 30% OFF - R7BGR973ZD6HDQ
    Free shipping

    Inspiron E1705
    Intel® Core™ Solo Proc T1350 (1.86GHz/533MHz/1 X 2MB L2 Cache)
    Windows® XP Home Edition
LCD Panel 17 inch Wide Screen XGA+ Display
512MB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz
Video Card Integrated Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 950
    60GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive
    10/100 Network Card and Modem
    8x CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-RW) with double-layer DVD+R write capability
    Integrated Audio
    Dell Wireless 1390 802.11g Mini Card (54Mbps)
53 WHr 6-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
Hardware Warranty 1Yr Ltd Warranty, 1Yr Mail-In Service, and 1Yr HW Warranty Support

    TOTAL: $832.30

You would have to pay tax equal to your state sales tax and then buy RAM - I got a good deal on 2GB from a Newegg.com one-day sale for ~$135, so you'll come out a little over $1,000 after all is said and done.

Thanks a lot for this spec laptop.
I would prefer to get a true Duo Core... The screen can be basic (WXGA+), and the default Integrated Graphics is fine too.
Can I use that coupon 30% on any E1705 specs? Thanks.
