I have gone back to Dell. :D I've owned several before and had good luck with them.
This is what I have on order:

    Core 2 Duo Processor T7500 (2.2GHz/800Mhz FSB, 4MB Cache)
    3GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz
    160GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive
    Slot Load DVD+/-RW (DVD/CD read/write)
High Resolution, glossy widescreen 15.4inch (1440x900)
    256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
    85 WHr 9 & 6-cell Lithium Ion Battery

Thank you! I don't play any games, though I may try the Microsoft Flight Simulator that I got for Christmas. I do a lot of photo/video editing & PhotoShop so I want all the power I could get. The fine looks of this notebook helped in my choice too.

If I were you, I'd wait another couple of weeks until Dell starts offering the new penryn processors. Not that their that big of an improvement, but why spend all that money and have the main part of your computer be outdated by the time it gets to your door. At least get the latest stuff.

And given what you do, I think you would benefit greatly from the power of the cpu, so it would be great if you could wait for the new cpus.

    But that's just me.

Too late as mine is already ordered. I live in the NW, but have friends in Florida that have business accounts with good discounts along with great support (4 years, next day service). I saved $$$ by having them order it for me. So I'm not complaining.

    BTW, any truth to this?

    CORRECTION!

I found out today that my friend in Florida couldn't get a RED XPS on his business account. Apparently they only offer black or white ones? So they're sending me a black one. Darn! But it isn't worth it to me to spend an extra $600 just to order from the regular Home/Home Office side just to get red!

Glad you made the switch..but sadly...you will have problems with any laptop manufacturer at some point or another. Switching manufacturers wont change that in most cases.

It will make it better in some cases...but you never know

    GOOD LUCK!!

I just put my trust back into Dell with the xps m1530 and am satisfied so far

True, but with the business side of Dell, they give you a notebook to use the very next day until you get yours back. I like that as I've been almost 3 weeks without my HP which I just sent back to HP today for the 3rd time.
So, now if something happens, I'm not without a notebook.

I think I read a while back that someone was able to order a different coloured lid for the Inspiron from Parts. If red is really important to you, you might be able to do that and perhaps install it yourself. In the case of the XPS 1530, I think you need two parts. I didn't check, but I recall that it wasn't cheap, maybe $50-60, but much less than $600.

Hey! Good idea... that way I can change the look when I get bored with it.
I think the black/silver will look great thinking on it though.
