Hello all,
I bought an off lease unit from ebay, since it has pro support till March of next year. The heat sink screws are chopped inside, so the heatsink, motherboard, and potentially the bottom chassis needs replacement.
In the old days, I used the browser to recognize the service tag on its own, and all I had to do is put in the new owner information. But now, it is asking me for the original company name and zip code for transfer.
And the transfer page is having some kind of technical issues as it seems, and it keeps directing me back to the first page. I spoke with the technician and he says I need to know the name of the original company.
So it is no longer true that as long as I have the actual system in hand, I can transfer the warranty without needing the past owner's information? Things have changed in the past couple years!
How shall I go about this? I definitely need the parts replaced.
Thanks in advance.

Definitely need all that info. Dell is tightening up on ownership transfers since there has been so much service tag/warranty theft lately.

After multiple attempts though the site's glitch, this morning, the form was finally successfully submitted.
I just put "off lease" as original company name and "no information" for the zip code.
I will see how it goes. But this is very frustrating. -
They may not allow the transfer with the lack of information you provided. Dell can always try and contact the original owner and get their permission to transfer ownership.

Yeah the support guy said that they will probably try to contact the original owner for the transfer. I will just wait and see for now. Though this is getting frustrating.

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
I don't think you'll get it either. It used to "just work" (at least most of the time) as per Mr. Mischief's thread, but I haven't been able to transfer any laptops that needed the company field ever since they mucked around with the system (a couple months now?). I always get a transfer denied email with "company did not respond" or "company does not accept transfer" or some other rubbish like that.

I JUST GOT AN EMAIL SAYING THAT THE TRANSFER IS COMPLETE!!!!!!!!!!
i LOVE YOU ALLLL -
When I enter the service tag on my Precision M4400, which I bought back in July, it's says there is still about 4 months left of the original 3 year warranty left. I will try to see if I can get it transferred to me.
Thanks for the info!
