Hey guys, just got my Inspiron 1520. First thing I did was wipe out everything and install Windows XP...only to find out 5 hours later after trying a bunch of drivers, packs, etc. that I couldn't get the sound or bluetooth to work in XP, not to mention horrible wireless compatibility for some reason :( So, I reinstalled Vista. First thing I did in Vista after getting everything up and running? Install 3dMark06 Of Course! here's a screenshot below of my score:

Hes getting extra points cuz his native reso can only handle up to 1280x800 instead of the usual 1280x1024.

1st of all, can you give me your specs?

I want to know how much it weighs.
Can you put it on the scale and tell me how much does it weigh?

Why didn't the Sigmatel 92xx C-Major HD drivers work?

And did you disable AHCI from BIOS before you installed XP or did you slipstream drivers?

i got about the same score as lightflux.

my desktop with P4 3.4ghz 2mb cache, 2gig o ram, and a 7800gtx 256mb which is, for sure gddr3 i have no experience with overclocking so i guess its stock. but it scored 4012. so iono what to say.... mind you that my desktop is about 1.5 years old.

is around the 3thousands what the 8600gt gddr3 should be getting? cuz i feel like getting the $100 compensation.
i tried getting compensation but the chat rep iono if it was a lady or a guy didnt seem liek she knew what i was talking about so she/he took teh effort to research it on the spot. she came to the conclusion that shell have hte returns department talk to me. i told her/he i didnt want a return but she/he insisted that they know details better than me and they can issue credit but not he/her.

on a side note how can you tell what the clock speed is at?
rivatuner -> driver settings -> systemsettings -> overclocking -> clockspeed?
if thats correct then my 8600 is clock at a mere 170. shouldnt it be at 700 or something?
how do you find out your graphics memory bandwidth? this i have no clue.

wtf.... after looking at the screenies i jsut realized that 3dmark said my video card was a generic VGA. WHAT!? is this a typo? cuz iono if a generic card can score 3k :\

If I may also ask, is there any graininess on your screen? If so, how bad is it? Thanks!

After getting sick of Vista, I reinstalled XP again...

Here are some answers to your questions above:

I don't know why the Sigmatel 92xx C-Major HD drivers don't work...they just don't. It says that these drivers aren't compatible with my system. I didn't disable AHCI, I slipstreamed the right SATA AHCI driver onto my XP installation. In addition to not having audio, for some reason although my wireless is up and running it doesn't connect with my router in XP (although it worked perfectly in Vista for some reason). Also, no bluetooth. So this is what I would like Dell to get right at the moment for Inspiron 1520 XP Installation:

    -Audio Drivers
    -Bluetooth Drivers
-WiFi Drivers (I found some on the intel driver like I said before...just don't know if they're really doing what they're supposed to)

Surprisingly, everything else works flawlessly (so far as I can detect at the moment).

    Here are my specs:

    Core 2 Duo 2.2 GHZ
    8600M GT
    2GB Ram
    160GB 7200RPM HDD
    4965 AGN Wireless
    High Def Audio
    8X DVD Burner

I got the 1440x900 Glossy Screen...absolutely no graininess IMO...only 1 dead pixel which I don't really care about enough to complain to Dell about

That's good to hear about the screen part. I have a couple stuck pixels on my monitor, and it's not a big problem to me (in fact, I've forgotten where they are lol). I really, really hope the LCD will be fine with me...it's my main concern at the moment.
