    Hey,

I just installed Vista Business on my E1505, which basically trashed the previous version of XP Media Center Edition. I dunno what it is, but Dell formatted the 80gig drive to give 10 gigs to Media Direct.

The system as a whole works great, but when the computer is up and running, the Media Direct button doesn't work.

When the computer's off, and I press the Media Direct button, it powers up and runs the software.

So I guess my only problem is how can I get the Media Direct button to work when the system's up and running?

    Thanks for your help, guys.

It probably isn't going to work, since Vista business does not include any MCE features. I'd give Dell a call and ask them, but I'm relatively sure that's what they will say.

    Try installing DELL media experience.

    Inside or outside Windows ?

No...that's not the problem. Dell Media Direct will most likely NOT work until they release a fix for the Windows Vista bootloader. There have been issues in XP where Media Direct wouldn't run with power off. Then Dell posted a fix that supposedly re-wrote the boot loader. Do not use the one from XP on Vista...you run a risk of trashing Vista. However, there are new systems shipping with Media Direct working properly with Vista. It should just be a matter of keeping an eye out for the patch to fix the bootloader for Vista.

If the hidden Media Direct partition is still there...it will appear after the fix. However, don't expect it to work with Vista Professional. What made it work with XP was Media Center Edition AND Cyberlink Power DVD 5.7. You don't have MCE on Professional

DELL Media experience and DELL Media Direct are two different programs. Media experience is just a Windows application that mimics Media direct / Win MCE features. I recommended installing Media experience because he wanted MCE experience inside Windows (at least that is what I understood he wanted).

If there's a patch for the boot loader, what would I be looking for and where would it be found?

And what I was originally asking was I just wanted to be able to access the MD partition and thus that program while Vista is running.
