Calling all Dell owners past and present....

Whilst I am a happy Dell owner, I always love to know about horror stories (so I can learn from them)[ :D]

    OK, I'll go first:

#1 A work collegue owned an i8500 a couple of years back, and he decided to plug a monitor into the VGA out. Apparently the screen went totally white and never recovered after that. Dell basically ended up having to replace his gforce4 4400 GO.[)] But, I owned the same model and had no problem.

#2 When I first purchased this laptop 12 months ago, I had it fitted with one of the first 80Gb Hitachi drives avaiable. Unfortunately, within 2 weeks it totally died and I needed to replace it. I should really have made a backup before AND AFTER I had installed everything [ ;)]

#3 This one did piss me off. After 1 month of owning my i8500 complete with the "Deluxe" nylon carry bag, the handle tore away from the bag!! To my horror, after ringing dell, they said bad luck the bag is not covered under warranty!!! Fortunately I found a great bag-smith down the road who repaired it for $30.

Oh well, anyone else with a horror story??

One thing that I have learned about computer hardware is that it comes down to the luck of the draw. I have worked at 2 major vendors of PC's and there is no worse off company. All parts do come from the same producer, so you cannot say that Dell is worse that IBM, or HP is worse than Toshiba. They are all the same, just different company names.
