I didnt see any COA (windows vista) tag, on the computer ! Neither it is there in any of the DVD's, i have the reinstall DVD though. I am wondering is this a normal practice ? I thought windows vista COA label should be stuck on new laptops !!!

Where can i get my product key from now !!! (If i was to reinstall etc)

<SOLVED> - It was in the battery compartment.

If you click on the Start button, then right click on Computer, then click on Properties, the Windows product key should show up at the bottom of the screen. If you don't have the COA, I would at least copy the product key down and keep it somewhere safe.

Thanks :) Actually what you see there is no product key .. you cannot use it to install again.
Anyways Finally i found out. Looks like since it came from dell directly, it had the battery on it .. usually battery is to be attached ..
I removed the battery and i found the COA there :) , so for all those who are buying studio 1555 and are shocked to see no COA under, its in the battery compartment. Remove the battery and you will find it ..

Yippie thank god its there ..

Product key for windows is in the format XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX what you see in mycomputer is Product ID which is derived from product key .. There are some softwares that can be used to get back the product key too.

Yep, newer Dell models hide the sticker under the battery bay. A good idea, really; it's less likely to get rubbed off or damaged, and more difficult for someone to glance at and copy while you turn your head.

Thats a good point, i was only considering wear and tear, as my wife's lenovo y410 (which was mine an year ago), has a COA, thats almost unreadable, i had made a note of the product key long time back. But yes keeping COA in the battery compartment is a simple, and good idea.

It really doesn't matter with Dells anyway because whenever you do a reinstall from the Dell media, you don't need your product key. It's really only there to prove yours is authentic.
