Just got my inspiron e1505/6400, when i booted from the xp pro cd to format it and reinstall, after i pressed the "any key" when it booted from cd, i was asked what type of computer I had, was like i486 (or something like that) and some other options, i chose "standard pc" but don't know if that was correct.

Some one know what this was and what I chosed have chosed?

Sounds like it was asking you about ACPI. Did you use the Dell XP disk or a disk you already purchased? Did you press F5 during the boot process and force in a system Hardware Abstraction Layer?

Stand-alone copy of XP Pro with SP2. Just chosed to boot from the CD/DVD and then it asked what type of computer it was.

Hmm, it definitely shouldn't be asking for that. Have you looked in your BIOS settings to see if everything is ok? Have you upgraded your BIOS recently?

I'm away from my 1705 right now, but when I get home I'll look at my settings (they should be similar) and compare them to yours.
