If the computer is from a company and not from average joe #1 it should have everything installed. Not too much you can do about wireless, other than having your apartment manager get a better router.

i think you need to reinstall vista, and then use the drivers cd that came with your laptop.

For people who doesn't really know what drivers do, I'd probably stay away from this step. I'm not sure if refurbs come with bloatware, but using PCDecrapifier would be a less teidious way of doing things. I would never recommend a newbie reinstalling drivers.

No, no the Dell Outlet is on Dell's website, it's where they sell returned models. (I don't think Dell Canada's website offers outlet savings tho)

It's not really based on the card. The difference between the best card in the world and a generic is small. Like I said, only thing you can do is get that router replaced with something better. Bring it up with your landlord.

There could also be pipes or something in the floor that's interfering with the signal. You might try moving your laptop around the room and see if your signal strength changes.

Does your refurb laptop come with a CD with the factory drivers?

You don't necessarily NEED to update all drivers. I usually only change them when I have a problem. The one I mostly keep an eye on is graphics.
