After waiting only 8 days from the time I placed my order, my Inspiron 1520 has arrived.
I've been using it all evening and I couldn't be happier!
No grain, no noises, no problems.
With the exception of one cable missing form the box (the cord that attaches from the adapter to the wall! LOL), my entire experience with Dell has been wonderful.
I feel bad for those that have had problems, but I hope that my experience will show people that there ARE good experiences with Dell.
I don't have time to write an in depth review as some users have, but if anyone has any questions, I would be more than happy to answer them.![]()

Wow, you have no idea how happy I am with my 1520 as well. I received mine yesterday and it's just amazing. When I first took it out of the box, I just stared at it for 5 minutes. It just looks that good in person.
It's also EXTREMELY sturdy except for the already known latch and it's really fast.
I will be posting a thread for 1520 8600M GT ingame screenshots soon. -

The laptop seriously rocks! -
so it seems that people getting the standard 1280x800 resolution aren't having silk screen effect problems.

I think the newer dell orders are really improving in quality. I'm expecting my 1520 soon so i'll be sure to confirm that the quality is going up

I will have to second the satisfaction with my recent Dell purchase. This D630 received July 9th has been solid all around. Great construction, quality, performance and reliability straight out of the box. First hassle-free PC between a dv7000, D600, D610 and a Gateway desktop.
Most solid computer to date. -
My resolution is 1440x900 and I have had absolutely no problems with anything.

I believe (just from browsing the forums) that the screens with the fewest issues are the WXGA (1280x800; matte, anti-glare).
This doesn't mean that if you get glossy or high-res screens that you're going to , or are even likely to have problems. It simply means that there is a greater possibility. I believe that the generally accepted cause of this is that the glossy screens, which include all but the WXGA, are AUO screens while the WXGA is a CUO screen.
you can compare the quality of the two brands here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=110847
I think the choice is obvious. -
In fact, take a look at the recent problems with the Samsung 226BW 22" LCD. There are Samsung, AUO and CMO panels used. By far, the CMO was the worst.
On the other hand I'm glad that there's less negativity surrounding the Inspirons around here now.Maybe it'll convince hesitant buyers that it's not completely doom and gloom.

However, I have always been happier with my Chi Mei than with my AU Optronics screen (mind you, i've only dealt with one of each, so I won't claim to be an expert).
The choice IS obvious to me because through browsing the forums, it seems that the owners of 1520's outfitted with the WXGA screen seem to be happier than those with the AU Optronics screens. -
i think you're right about that. I haven't received my 1520 yet, but I think that the problems w/ the 1520 have been exaggerated and blown out of proportion on these forums.
Got my 1520 today - couldn't be happier
