I got my 1501 today and so far I am enjoying it!
I need some help with it though. Its been a long time since Ive done this, so Im dont want to screw it up.
I need to remove a bunch of preloaded software. Is there a list of how to do some of them already?
More specifically I want to remove ALL the trail versions and some of the update software. I also have roxio on here even though I didnt order itso I think I want to remove it as well.
This is a work/school computer so I want it down to the basics.
TIA!

Reformat the hard drive? Also why didn't you wait for the new line? Isnt the 1501 equiped with AMD? Arn't AMD not as good with battery life compared to the latest Intel chips???
-
this is a school/work only computer which will be a lot of typing up spreadsheets and such, no gaming or graphics, and Ill be mainly at a desk next to an outlet. I got the 9cell battery just incase though. -
putting a fresh copy of xp/vista will get rid of all of the trial software. or use apps like de-crapifier for dell. (there is many diffrence apps to do this).
-
my AMD gets 4 hours depending on the use.
-
Try going to Control Pannel, and removing stuff you don't want like in the add/remove section thing...
-
-
Didn't they include the Windows and drivers discs with the computer? You can just reinstall... it's probably easier.
-
You could post the names here and we could tell you if it's necessary or not
-
-
Not just easier but will make a whole difference like day and night. However, before doing so, make sure you have the following:
OS Disc
New drivers from dell's website burn to a disc
Optional:
MediaDirect disc - if you want this program to function properly
Software you bought with this laptop (office, anti-virus, etc)
Powerdvd disc - If you want to watch dvds, unless you have Vista Home Premium -
cool! I think this *might* have been what I did a couple years ago to my desktop that FINALLY got rid of the stupid norton updater that I couldnt seem to get rid of completely.
Ive got the OS, the applications/drivers, the powerDVD, and the roxio. I dont want the roxio... I do want the powerDVD if I decide to watch DVDs on it? I think Ill leave it off for now. I have a portable DVD player for my kid that is always in my car, so when I want to watch a movie outside of the house, then I just use it.
My software that I purchased has not yet arrived(I did not want it preloaded).
Im running the OS now. -
ok I reinstalled the OS but now Im stuck at the drivers... I did the wizard thing and now I have a page open with items with checkmarks, and some without checkmarks... what do I do??
-
install all the drivers
-
doI install the ones with the check or without?
I think the ones with the check, so I went ahead... now what? my scroll on my touchpad is no longer working. -
wtf, i never owned a DELL b4 so i dunno. but just install all the checked ones and u should b good.
-
lol! ok well I installed the unchecked touchpad thing and now it works... guess my own computer doesnt know what it is equipped with
now Ive gotta download some protection and play with my settings -
tip: torrents are your best protection and performance
you know what im talking about lol -
wtf is wrong with demonoid?! they crashed?
-
who what huh?
-
am I stuck with IE7?? I cant stand IE7 ugh!
-
-
I have IE7 and love it. Nothing better than tabbed browsing! But, Firefox also has this feature. Either one is a good browser. Just whatever you choose.
-
Hambone, wtf... lol
Hope this doesn't get into a FF vs IE debate. FF has memory issues and IE has security issues, but I prefer FF. Doesn't really matter, just get a browser you like... -
Rather memory hog issues than security issues that can compromise your valuable data, imho.
-
yeah Ive had firefox and my brother has IE7 and firefox on his desktop that I use from time to time... Im weird and probably in the minority... but I do NOT like tabbed browsing.
I also hate the layout. I guess Ill just have to get use to it -
Personaly I like safari, Is gotta be the single thinnest webbrowser on the market right now. now if they only fix the security issues.
But ur best bet to get rid of the crapware that comes with the Computer is to check off any "dont install this crap on my computer" stuff that dell offers u when u build the compter. thats the first line of defence. the next is to clean up the program files folder. if thiers anything that you don't feel that you need, delete it.
If anything and u screw up i think that dell would be more than happy to send u all the crapware again. -
yeah I got all the crap off it looks like. I clicked all the options to have nothing preinstalled, even opted to get the software I needed in the box instead of already installed... but you just cant get out of some of the free trails and they screwed up and sent me roxio even though I chose the option without it lol!
now Im having wireless internet issues because Im trying to password it.
Got my Dell! Now I need help!!
