And I love it! 1.83 ghz Duo Core, 2 GB RAM, Truelife, 100 GB Hard Drive.

After deleting all the bloatware, it runs really well. The speakers are amazing. The screen has some light leakage at boot up and when on black screen, but how often is that going to be. Other than that, the screen is really sharp and looks great. Super PI to 2 million digits results were 1:18. Keyboard feels good, buttons on touchpad are soft, but I like them a lot. Weight and size are very portable for a 14 inch laptop, even with the 9 cell. I'm excited that I finally have it. Let me know if you have any questions.

In order status, click on the order number of your laptop. Afer that click on View Order Details. On the order details page it should show you everything in your laptop. On mine, this is what it says:
15.4 Inch Wide-screen WXGA Display for Inspiron 6400/E150

To find out what screen you have, right click on the desktop ==> graphic properties ==> information ==> notebook tab.

I also just got my e1405, I then reformatted it to Windows XP PRO and installed the drivers.

One quick question. I installed the Intel PRO/Wireless 3945 and bluetooth driver. I can't find the driver for the LAN, I can't connect to the network in my place and surf the net using cable internet. Where can i find the driver for this one?

    Thanks!

I ordered an E1405 on May 14 and it might not arrive until the 30th, this seems like an exceptionally long period to build and ship a computer. Could this mean Dell is replacing the screens that some other users have complained about?

I ordered mine the 6th and received it the 16th. Throughout the order process Dell claimed I'd get it around the 28th. I'd imagine you'd get it earlier than the 30th.

I ordered on the 3rd and wasn't supposed to get it until the 18th. I would imagine 14-15 days is their standard build time.

Ended up getting it early by about a week.

If I get my E1405 and I find the screen unusable, can I return it completely or can I only get a replacement? If it sucks, I'd rather just return it and use my money for a MacBook.

You can return it. They will charge you a 15% restocking fee, but some in here have been able to get them to wave it.

I would be wary to get a MacBook compared to the E1405. My wife and I were thinking about sending back the 1405 and getting a MacBook, because she has always wanted an Apple.

However, after comparing, here is what I noticed.
    1. The price is about $200 more for the MacBook than a maxed out E1405 ($1229 vs $1449 (Middle-tier white with 80GB HD and 1GB RAM)).
    2. The obvious result of the above is the specs on the Mac are either the same or worse than the Dell.
    2. The screen is smaller (13.3" vs 14.1"), but the book itself is about the same size. Most dimensions are within 1/2", and the Dell only weighs more when you put the bigger battery in. So you are getting a smaller screen without any benefits in terms of size.

So you end up paying more for the Apple, but not really getting any benefit out of it. If the book had been smaller and/or lighter, we probably would have done it. But since it isn't, we would basically be paying more for an E1405 with a smaller screen that could run OSX.

If you were looking for alternatives, I would suggest the Asus z62f or Lenovo 3000 N100 (14"). I was able to price both books in the same range as I paid for the E1405 (and still less than the MacBook) with little loss in terms of specs. But again, we decided we could live with the Dell, as the leakage doesn't seem to be as serious in ours as others.

P.S. - Check out the review of the MacBook on the front page. Hopefully the dude just got a bad book, but in reading about MacBook Pros, it seems heat is a bit of an issue for Apple.
