    okay
i'm really impressed by the laptop except for these two probs.
    first problem
my screen looks grainy in white background (see pic..taken with flash turned off ).is that a common problem? will they replace my screen with a better one if i call and complain?
my screen is an led, but unable to tell the manufacturer from the device manager (i saw CMO something under the hardware id but i thought only LG and samsung make this screen).if someone could provide a step by step instruction, that would be great.i watched a movie and the dark areas on a frame looks great but the white area sucks.my old hp produced better picture
    seond problem
i've a 6cell battery with the OEM ac adapter.
donno if its only me..but it took more than 3.5hrs to completely charge the battery down from 25% my old hp took less than 30min maybe 45min to completely charge a battery (from 10%)
can someone post their charging times? ofcourse i charged it when browsing the internet but still 3.5hrs is too much IMO

Q abt the warranty..is it better to ask for a laptop replacement or ask for a new monitor (if i choose to replace it after reading your comments).i would have asked for a replacement, but after reading some horrible reviews i'm really scared to ask for a replacement.except for the poor screen,i'm happy (no bump on the keyboard/no sound from the CPU)

as for the pics..the screen doesn't look that bad as seen in the picture
    thanks in advance

You have the Chi Mei (CMO) LED backlit LCD panel, which is the one that people have lots of problems with. If you call XPS tech support and ask them to send a tech to replace the LCD panel, be absolutely sure that they send out part number RP774, the Toshiba (TMD) display instead of part number GR549, which is the CMO panel. Even after they've arranged for a replacement part to be sent out, you will probably want to ask them which part number they arranged for so that you can be 100% positive that it will be RP774 instead of GR549.

I thought it was the LG that is the best, not Toshiba?

The LG screens are non-LED, I believe.

Right, the two manufacturers of LED backlit LCDs are Chi Mei and Toshiba at this time.

I had my Chi Mei replaced, but I was unfortunate in getting a Chi Mei replacement also.

Where do you go to check what the part number is for the replacement?

You know, I'm not sure where you would go to check on which part number they sent you if you've arranged a replacement. The information may be available on the Dell website, but I'm not sure where. If you got a case number or order number or something for the replacement, you might want to try putting it into order tracking on the Dell site.

The best way to make sure you get the part you want is probably to make absolutely sure that they understand what you want before you hang up the phone/end the chat, though. Sometimes customer service reps will pretend that they understand or think that they understand your problem when they really don't, and might end up ignoring your request for a specific part number because of this.

had a chat with a dell rep and he told me that they can't replace this CMO screen with a toshiba..donno why..he said i would have to buy the toshiba and call the service dept to get it replaced.
or my other option is to return this laptop and reorder it with the Toshiba screen
can someone advice me on this problem? should i try a different rep?

Thanks for the info. My lcd was scratched right out of the box, but I just talked to a CSR and he was able to order the RP774 screen for replacement.
