So this is what has happened so far:
Sunday 9/9: I order a Dell Vostro 1500 - money is transfered from my account - I recieve a confirmation e-mail etc.
Tuesday 11/9: Order passes the 'In Production'-phase
Wednesday 12/9: Your order has been taken by the delivering company, more information will be available soon.
Friday 14/9: Order stills says that more information will be available soon. I go to pay some bills - instead of $300 on the account that's connected to my VISA I have over $1500 on it. The extra $1200 must have been transfered to my account some time between wednesday and friday.
When I check the history of my account it doesn't say anything about money being transfered to Dell or it getting back. It simply looks like the money has been there the whole time. (I checked after ordering and I could see that the money had been transfered though).
Did Dell send my money back, was there some kind of problem at the bank? I don't understand. Has this happened to anyone else?

Dell does not typically bill until the package has been recieved. More than likely, Dell has that money on reserve, and will take it out once the vostro is delivered.
It may have disappeared for a day or two because of the Authorization process, but I assure you, it will be gone for good shortly. -
Yeah same has hapened to me as well, I ordered my laptop, they took the money out, then a week latter it went back in, now my laptop is just being delivered, what the hell... :/

It's confusing :F Also walking around with a card that has $1500 on it makes me a bit uncomfortable
(when i pay for something money is transfered directly from my account, i don't get a bill at the end of the month or anything)

I seem to recall reading that this happens pretty frequently. At least certainly it has happened with UK users before where the money disappears, reappears and disappears for good a few days later. I think whoever said it might be a quirk of the authorization process has the right idea. It'll prob be permanently removed a day or two after it's shipped or after you get it. Nothing to worry about, I don't think.

they authorize the transaction first this "reserves" that amount so it shows like its actually used.. then after say 3-5 days the authorization falls off and the money will show back in your account.. then once they ship the system they invoice it and start the real transaction and the money will be taken out within usually 24-48 hours after this... you didnt get a free system.. trust me i know how this works we own 2 business and run cc's all the time

wasn't really hoping for a free laptop, just got worried that they had canceled my order or something. Gonna call them on monday just to make sure that everything is going as it should.
Zfactor: The money appeared after the laptop shipped, that's why I thought it was strange. (atleast if you can trust the Dell orderstatus thing... can you? :F) -
lol they did that to authorize my account, but it took like 5 minutes tops
Got my money back, without asking for it. *confused*
