Now, I have some anxiety regarding the wsxga screen I ordered. I have heard that I should pray to get the samung screen. I know this is all luck etc.
Ok questions
1) One basic one? how do I scan a screen for dead pixel? what is a deadpixel and how to find it ?
2) what about screen leaks? what does that mean and how do I know if my screen will have one.
3) are you happy with the non-samsung screens.
cheers,
and I am pumped about the laptop.
thanks for all resposes in advance. and have a pleasant day.

hi
first, relax.
remember that happy people don't post about their computer problems on forums. there a gabillion people who are quite happy with the dells (and hps and ibms and etc.).
i'll give you the bottom line in regards to any screen worries you may have...
"if it looks good to you, that's all that matters"
that's it.
sorry if that's a little short, but the reality is that you're the customer and no matter what anybody on a forum says or what any dell rep says, the only thing that matters is if you are happy with your LCD.
so, when your computer gets to you, power it up and take a look and if you're happy, then don't look back or second guess yourself.
in all honesty, if you have to go hunt for a problem because of a some posts on a forum, then you're trying too hard.
relax.
take a breathe.
stop reading those posts.
make your decision after you get your computer. -
There are several complaints but that is because the user couldn't stand it or just expected too much out of an LCD. IMO, all LCDs have some type of light leakage - the amount of it varies. Basically what light leakage is - is how the name describes it. You'll notice that the sides and top/bottom are lighter than the middle, and you'll most likely only notice this when you are turning your laptop on. When you are watching movies and have your normal desktop visible, you won't notice this problem.
LCDs are made up of tiny pixels, and a dead pixel implies that one of those pixels is no longer working. You'll notice a tiny little dot. Normally Dell will replace LCD screens because of dead pixels, but I'm not sure how many you have to have in order to get a replacement.
Just as drumfu said - if you are happy with the screen, then that is all that matters. I have one dead pixel and some light leakage on my screen, but it doesn't bother me at all

UCDoc,
Here is a website that will guide you through a few screens that assist in examining for dead or stuck pixels. There is no software to download.

I am just putting the finishing touches on my new e1705 and I'm quite pleased. FWIW, I have no dead pixels. -
My plasma tv got 3 stuck pixel, one stuck at green and two (or more) stuck at grey. i don't mind. i mean, if its 1920x1200, 3 to 6 dead pixel!?!? you wouldn't even notice it!!! have you looked at how small each pixel is! oh i believe there are some good utility and method i found on the internet if you got stuck/dead pixel (haven't test if it really work yet, my current LCD (from dell) got no DEAD PIXEL!);
1) message gently on the dead pixel
---------program--------- NO INSTALL NEEDED!!!------
2)dead pixel buddy (a utility to check if you got dead pixel): http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Benchmarks/Dead-Pixel-Buddy.shtml
3)Stuck pixel sweep (a java-based utility to shock stuck pixel to work again. doesn't work if u got dead pixel) - http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=149072&package_id=164517&release_id=364048
