    1. (I think this is a problem) When I go to the windows task manager, at the bottom it says CPU usage at 100%. I have no idea what's going on, it says it's running 62 processes, which seems kind of high to me, I don't know. I restarted my computer- the same thing.

    2. My internet freezes up every time I change pages. Sometimes I can get to my homepage if I'm lucky, but when I try to go to google it freezes. It was just working fine, I didn't change anything, and now all of a sudden this is happening.

    PLEASE HELP!

Sounds like a software problem. Dell will tell you they have nothing to do with it. Which they don't. they just manufacture the machine, not the OS, that's Microsoft for you. Good Luck getting a hold of Microsoft on the phone. They also charge quite a bit(they used to anyways). Wait for some more responses though, I might be wrong.

The only thing I've really loaded onto this computer has been McAfee, I don't know if that's what's keeping my CPU usage at 100% or what.

I have no idea about the internet. One second it was fine (I was posting on here with it), the next second I can't get anywhere.

MSKSrvr.exe, McShield.exe, and mghtml.exe seem to be using most of my CPU power, I don't know what to do about this though.

62 processes is quite a lot.

you should reformat and reinstall XP on your machine. your problems sound like they are coming from all the bloatware.

Did you do service pack upgrades? Im sure it came with Sp2,but hey..

Most of those 62 Proccesses are bloatware dell loads on the computer before sending it out, so they make money from their vendors. Id say find a good Dell format on Notebookforums.com under Dell. and go from there.

If you dont do any gaming, look into Linux a distro called Ubuntu, its great for laptops and has a GREAT Support community.

I'm going to have a fun afternoon.

Their support website says they can't enter a support chat with me because I'm not a home customer. Um, I'm at home, and I know I'm not a business customer, what else could I be. I'm on hold right now on the phone listening to this recorded voice over and over telling me to go to dell.com for help because all the support people are busy ("it may take longer than 10 minutes to get to my call"... I'm sure it will).

I guess I have to wait.

    Fun.

    Well...

I was sitting here for about a half an hour waiting to talk to a support guy when I checked my CPU again.

    Down to 2%...

I noticed my McAfee SpamKiller program was disabled for some reason. I turned SpamKiller back on and it went back up to 100%.

    Soooooo...
I uninstalled SpamKiller and everything's cool now. I don't mind getting some spam in return for a working computer.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. My next step is to reformat as soon as I get the CDs.

i had the same problem where it told me " You are not a Home and Home office customer" You WANT to get that taken care of , the web is so much easier to go through for support, faster, and you can understand what they are saying. Because text doesnt have those indian accents.. Call them up and tell them what the web chat said. All will be good after that.

    Lol.

No joke about those Indian accents, I had to call support for my wireless router yesterday and I couldn't understand the lady on the other end.

So I should call tech support to get that home user thing changed?
