I am just wondering if the grainy screen deal is an issue in Canada. I ordered my XPS M1530 last thursday. It has been shipped and is on its way. I was wondering if the chances of getting a $h!tty screen are less in canada.
anyone know?

The hi rez seems to have the most problems...peeps in Canada are plagued as are others in Europe etc...
-
i got mine yesterday i dont see any problems with my screen and yes it is a samsung.
-
How are the angles on it?
I returned 2 so far, they were grainy but the worst thing was that you could not move your head much while in front of the screen. -

dell should either use all crappy screens or all good screens. just keep it uniform. if they were all bad then everyone would know before they bought it and take it into consideration when buying. If they were all good (which is the better of the two options) then there would be no problems at all (with screens at least......there will always be problems with something but this could be eliminated as easily as them just not purchasing samsung screens no matter how good a deal they get on them)
or, secret option number 3.....give us a choice with a substantial price difference. people might end up with a good Samusung for less money (or a bad samsung) or people can guarantee a good screen by buying LG.) -
Having said that, you do have the option of ordering the XK309 from Dell Parts for $290 + $15 shipping and taxes. Maybe that's the secret option #3... -

if i have my service tag how do i check? -

As a true Canadian wouldn't it be difficult to discern a grainy screen? I mean with all the maple syrup residue, back bacon grease, and beer stains that'll be on the display the grainy screen becomes moot.
But seriously, I'm a Canadian Dell user and own the computer in my sig. The Samsung display I have is absolutely fine. -
same here..and when you start playing with the Nvidia Control Panel...it really makes everything stand out ....

I'm a Canadian Dell user and I have LG screen on my XPS M1530. I was one of the lucky guy to get it.

Good luck -
Wow, thanks for the quick reply Rhodan! Is this line 24/7 like the technical support line? Also, was it easy to install it yourself? Not sure if it'll help me since I'm using a 1520, but it shouldn't be too different a process.
-
Look at the 1520 manuals online, there should be a maintenance manual explaining how to replace the LCD.
-
Whoops, haha, thought you'd already installed it. Thanks so much again for all the info! I'll order a screen later this week. Rep for you
-
Hmm, screen was delivered, but I received another Samsung screen. Guess I have to keep exchanging it until (hopefully) I get the LG screen.
-
Wow, good luck to all of you. I hope Dell is not pushing their Samsung screens to Canada or anything (since there're so many complaints from the states and all).
By the way, did you guys use any kind of a discount code or method when you bought your m1530? Because I noticed that the Canadian Dell website never has any of the nice deals that the American site does.
Also the $319 discount model from the website only has two choices for CPU: T7250 or T9500, which is too extreme. -
I just ordered my m1530 today and got another 200$ off aside from the 319$ from calling dell and bargaining rather then buying off their site
(Canadian btw)
i agree that we've been getting really crappy coupons here. -
The coupons here a few and far apart. It helps if you subscribed to the Dell newsletters (home and small business). I just go a 20% off coupon for the Vostro line a couple of weeks back in their newsletter. -
My computer shipped 13/03/2008, and I got the WXGA+ LG screen. I'm in Toronto if that makes any difference. Suppose I got lucky too. I didn't even know about the Samsung monitor issue before ordering so it was never a concern.
Grain on your screen canadians?
