First off, I'd like to say I recieved an AUO 2077 WXGA+ LCD screen. When I first booted my notebook today I immediately noticed the screen looked like it was covered with a very thin oily liquid and like sandpaper was lightly brushed all over. The screen doesn't bother me too much to get it replaced but if there are better screens out there now, then I'd like to take the opportunity to get this screen replaced. I also heard Dell has got rid of all their AUO screens and are now using better screens? I also heard LG screens aren't cracked up to what people expected them to be because of the huge light bleeds. If someone can actually verify these rumors with facts I'd greatly appreciate this as will alot of the other forumers who are in a similar situation.

Forums cannot verify rumors because everything said on a forum is a rumor. But it's highly unlikely dell would flat out drop one of the biggest producer of screens in the world. If its not bad enough to return it then dont return, simple as that. It will be like a week before you get it back anyways.

I got them to send a replacement for mine, and I'm quite certain it was necessary.

Let me put it this way, my screen is so bad (vertical viewing angles & sparkle/grain) I couldn't tell that the post section and the part with the username/avvie/join date/post count/rep had different color backgrounds.

most all laptop screens are like that. thats just the way the viewing angles are. if you dont like that then you need to get the wide viewing angle screen, the highest res one...

I just received my 1520, and aside from some light leakage at the bottom, the screen is beautiful. I looked at device manager and comparing that to info in another threat looks like I received a Phillips screen. The leakage is very noticeable when booting up or with a black screen saver, but other than that it doesn't bother me at all.

if you guys had to choose, which would you rather stick with: light leakage or a grainy screen?

also, has anyone received an inspiron 1520 yet with wxga+ res that has not had any screen issues that you know of?

I'd much rather have the light leakage. It's unnoticeable to me 90% of the time whereas the grainy screens will be about the opposite it seems.

That sounds pretty bad...I have the AUO and I can clearly tell the difference between the different colors. There is grain, but not very noticeable for me. I had a tv once that had bad blacks (dull, I suppose), and it bothered me a lot so I should probably stick with the AUO. I wouldn't like the light leakage and any color distortions (this screen is showing none of this). It could be I just got a nicer screen from them; I only received it yesterday so perhaps they're taking steps to fix the problem.
