I'm assuming that this is what everyone is complaining about.
Also, this guy had the same grainy problem and a dell guy came a replaced his screen. Now it isn't grainy.

Honestly, I can not tell that those screens are "grainy".
-
-
i can't tell either..
-
You can see a difference but it's sure not huge.
-
Wow! Thats a fantastic screenshot! I didn't really know what people were talking about before this.. You can see that the pic in the left, the grey and white area looks has some kind of really "miniscule black specks".. Not annoying enough to give a headache or eyestrain imo..
-
-
the G4 screen is so much better...
-
this could have to do with the monitor im looking at this picture from =P.
-
-
i cant really see a difference...
-
Guys, guys- I think this whole grainyness thing has reached hysteria levels with people trying to figure out if they even have any of 'it' cuz the differences are so small- geesh.
I mean if there's a legitmate issue out there where the GPU is causing some amt of image distortion, then fine, that should be addressed.
But everyone here is staring like maniacs at the MBP screenshot desperately trying to see if it is plagued by the dreaded grainy-disease. And what's teh point in that?? It's a freakin SIMULATED shot- even the guy who origianlly posted it admitted to that having intentionally added the distortion for effect!
I too was all hyped up about this b4 actually receiving my 1720 thinking it would be a nightmare. Maybe I'm just one of the lucky ones, cuz when I got it I was struck by how awesome the screen clarity and brightness was. My concern is that others who have yet to receive theirs willl be double-guessing themselves to death, canceling and reordering to some other spec (like anti-glare) to avoid a problem they may NEVER have experienced if they waited. Sure glad I did! -
-
theres a difference between the 2?
i am blessed to not have a sharp eye -
-
i was able to see the difference once i angled my screen and looked at it the comparison. lookin straight on i could not tell they were different.
-
I can definitely see the difference between the two, the graininess doesn't stand out as much but that could be because it's just a picture, I can only imagine how it must look in person. The G4 does indeed have the better screen.
-
haha the thing is.
if you have a 1520 which has the grainy effect, both of them would look grainy, wouldnt they? haha -
how do you not see the grainyness? I think it's either your monitor is grainy or...
-
i can kinda see theres a little bit difference between the two, but I don't see one as better than the other. So I might be able to tell the difference, but grainy and non grainy looks equally good to me. -
Here if you look at the picture on the left. The colors look darker. This is because of the grainyness.
edit:
The left side does not look CLEAN and looks dirty. That's the grainy ness -
only the grey title bar looks a little bit different for me,,, only if i look real close( i mean literally with my eyes near the screen) with a comparison right next to it
i see no difference in the white areas
and no difference in the colored areas -
Give it to me straight Doc, I can take it! I just GOTTA know, Is my bouncing baby lappy suffering from Grainyness or not??
Now, if that seemed stupid, it was done to make a point that many are missing- just like the image above, the original MBP image at top of thread is ALSO a SIMULATION, not real. All your doing is verifying whether you can detect distortion on a FAKE image- GET IT????Attached Files:

now that laptop has a grainy screen lol
-
Is this just on the 1520? I have a 1720 coming...I hope my screen is crisp and clear!
-
Well I'm happy I now know what the graininess looks like, and I now see it isn't that big of a deal, I probably wouldn't have noticed it without the comparison shot. I know I'm seeing it perfectly because I am viewing this on a high quality CRT and my eyes are perfect.
-
Yes, you're seeing an artificially created image of a grainy screen with perfect eyesight on your nice CRT. Congrats!
hey- whatever works... ignorance is bliss! -
wow...maybe im blind, but it took me about 5 minutes to notice any difference.
Andy - would that be the exact same graininess that people are complaining about with the inspiron? anyone with the grainy issue can you chime in on this?
totally glad i didnt cancel my order if this is what the fuss was all about... -
LOL! ok people... I give up. << runs away screaming>>
is everyone here too young to have seen War Of The Worlds? Ya know, when they PRETENDED that the world was being invaded by extra-terrestrials on a SIMULATED radio broadcast...
... no, I suppose not
desisolja- I'll say it one more time cuz I like you, the Mac Book Pro screen shot IS NOT REAL, but rather a simulated fake image created of what grainyness 'would' look like. It's pretend, like Barney the Dinosaur. Stop trying to see it, cuz if you do, you're only verifying you can see a fake representation of the infamous 'grainyness'
I'm going back to work now -
exactly, it's a photoshopped image. I just wanted to see if actual 1520 owners had screens as bad as that.
-
Yeah, it's an artificial image, blah, blah...
But it LOOKS LIKE screen with grainy. -
well I am here to tell you that I notice no graininess on my laptop
-
And is this a grainy screen???????????
http://telendro.com.es/imagenes/base.gif -
-
The only possible reason you cannot see the screen is crap must be that you are watching that image on a grainy screen...
; )
Edit: When read the entire thread I know it's just a simulated picture (of course, since a print screen can't capture the fault). But I am still amazed how NOT to see the difference. -
I got my 1520 yesterday. I do notice the grainy screen but, to me, it's really not that bad. I'm not sure what I would be doing so that the screen would bother me. But, I do understand why people are complaining, they didn't pay for a grainy screen. I guess you could try to have Dell come to your house but I'm pretty sure nothing will be done. So the only choices are:
a) return it
b) deal with it
I've decided to deal with it. I'm fairly satisfied with my 1520 to this point. -
-
If THAT is the difference between grainy and not grainy, then it is a complete non-issue to me.
If the difference is so small that you have to stare for 10 minutes and think "okay, maybe there is a difference" then Im going to stop worrying about it. -
-
Are people's LCD's actually being replaced by 'non-grainy' ones? If so, I might do it too. It wouldn't hurt but I'm not going to return my 1520 because of it.
-
yes the replacements aren't grainy from what I've heard.
and by the way my friend got a black 1520 which came in last week (he neglected to tell me until today). The screen is not grainy....go figure (yes he has the glossy WSXGA+ screen). -
also: to those of you who are having them replaced, you just call dell up and they send their guy down there the next day free of charge or how does it work? -

i thought only the 1440X900 was glossy... -

For all Asus notebooks with the screen "graininess" issue, they were all fixed with a simple BIOS update.

yeah, I just checked to make sure. I was 99.9% sure it was glossy, now I am 100%.
