I read a lot of good news about LG screens. I got 4 Screens replaced already, they think it's my video card, and also they think it's my operating system ( man I should be a dell rep, how does operating system help a grainy screen? Retarded ). Anyways, I got all AUO and they suck ass. Their grainy as hell, how has everyone gotten a better screen? What did you say in the convos?

I got the LG Screen (WXGA+) on my fourth attempt for my Vostro 1500. The moment, I looked at it, the difference in display quality could be felt and all the replacement effort and calls were worth it.

I was never promised an LG screen even after talking to 3-4 technical reps and the manager. I also wrote an email to the tech. reps manager but got a call with a promise to deliver a flawless laptop but they never commited an LG screen.

I am not sure, if it was by luck or my nagging that indirectly got me what I wanted. But my advice is to demand for the screen replacement with a LG.

As was pointed out in the other thread you started about this......it was pure luck, nothing more.

Due to the way Dell manufactures their laptops, there's no way for a rep to promise you a specific screen.

i wasted about $100 in cell minutes on hold to dell trying to get a decent screen. man, four screens? that is nuts. how much effort will you put in before throwing in the towel? i only saw three and ended it.

i was PROMISED an LG replacement sending my laptop into the dell repair depot you figure they could do that. i mean, tell the damn tech to put in an LG, right? did not happen. i don't trust tell reps any more than i can find my stapler. have you seen it? it's a swingline.

unless you have in home service added to your system there is no way to get a specific screen. there IS A SLIGHT CHANCE if you have in home service. if you dont have that all you can do is keep having them send out new systems. nothing else. anyone who tells you otherwise simply got lucky period.

Dmak, there really is nothing you or the rep can do. All they do is request replacement. Rest is luck. If you get LG, GREAT, if not well sorry.

They can guarantee you and feed you all the assurances and sweet talk but it's all random if you're lucky, you'll get it.

They cannot guarantee what screen they give, all they can guarantee is that it's the correct model (if you have a wxga+, they will send you a wxga+)

sorry mate, not much we can tell you. Keep trying.

I don't know if that is necessarily true. At least it wasn't in my case. When I was on the phone with the tech, and it was determined that I was going to receive a 2nd replacement screen, I read off to her the exact part number and description of the LG screen that I found within these forums. I told her that is what I wanted.

She entered the order for the screen into their system with the exact numbers that I gave her and that is what I did end up getting.

What I believe is, Dell can't give you the specific panel at all. Then just give you any panel on hand, somebody get a nice screen replacement so he think sDell has done something about it. The realilty is he's just lucky.

I am just my 3rd replacement of V1400 with the same grainy AUO WXGA+ panel. 10 days left for me to defund.

Think what you want. All she did was enter that info into your case notes.. It had nothing to do with your getting an LG. You just happened to get lucky. The CSR's have absolutely no control what goes on in the build cells in Malaysia.

    Heyall,

I'm interested in getting the Vostro 1500, and am doing some research on this graininess thing. For those that are upgrading to the 8600M GT, why not get the SXGA+?

Thanks, and sorry for digging up a slightly old thread; just trying to sort this out :)

Build cells in Malaysia? Wow I'd like to have some of whatever you're drinking.

My 1520 was built and shipped from:

    DELL RFC DHL
    Sparks, NV 89434
    United States

The day after I placed the order.

Hey, how do you like your HP? I am thinking about buying a HP because Dell's 1420/1520 has so many problems. I am about to get the dv2500 (14.1").

Do you know if the HP's have magnesium-alloy casing? Does it have WIFI antennas built in the LCD display?

Guys what about sourcing and installing your own? I don't think it would even have to be from Dell.
