Hey
I am about to recieve my 1520.
It has a 1440x900 glossy screen.
I was just wondering if anyone else has a 1520 with this screen....and is it grainy or not?
I am asking because apparently it is only the 1440x900 res screens with this problem.

I went with 1440x900, Their picking it up for a full refund tommorrow.
-
Is there any way that you can get someone from dell to replace the monitor instead of just sending it back??
Also, in onother thread...someone said that it was only the first batch of 1520's that had the grainy screen issue, and that all batches from now on will not have it. Could this be true?
Matt....when did u recieve urs? -
I got mine last week, They are useing cheap screens in them, They are continueing to use cheap screens, It is not a fault, they will no repair it. It is because they are using poor quality screens to match the poor quality Ethernet, and DVD drive.
-
qwerty4444, It is true that the display is a cheap. I received my 1520 yesterday (1440 x 900) and I found it extremely grainy to a point of annoyance. Best of luck to you.
-
as other have mentioned in threads about the inspiron's grainy screens, the lower resolution, anti-glare (CUO) screens don't seem to have the problem in such a high percentage of cases
It is disappointing though... I more than understand those who like to have the extra pixel real estate on their screens. -
I have the 1680x1050(or w/e the highest res is) and there is graininess. But it isn't nearly as bad as what I've read on the forums. It is there but it doesn't interfere with anything i have done. Words and colors are still sharp. Others have also complained about the colors aren't deep enough, i just fixed this by reducing the gamma. I don't know if this is exactly what they are talking about, but i think it looks better.
Yes it is grainy, but it is almost not even noticeable, i am not even annoyed by it. -
Sorry, it double posted.
-
Dell did offer to replace my screen. I was going to try that option until I learned about the headphone jack noise in addition to the other little annoyances.
-
Stella how come you went with the G1S over the V1s?
-
Just generally displeased with little issues with the 1520 and Dell's support. If I hadn't already sold my M1210, I probably would have just kept that.
Plus I saw a G1S in Best Buy and the screen just made me drool--I'm gonna be so let down if the one I receive doesn't have that amazing screen. Where'd you order your V1S? -
i ordered a 1520 w/wsxga+ screen. hopefully it's not bad..
-
the g1s is ddr3 while the v1s is ddr2 i believe
-
Stella: I went with ExcaliburPC Because they offered me amazingly cheap international postage, And they were really helpful and friendly.
-
-
I have WSXGA+, it's grainy. Really doesn't bother me though.
-
Asus provides a two year global warranty, all warranty stuff is provided by asus, thats the way asus works.
-
btw the v1s looks amazing! in terms of specs, design, etc. i have, of course, not actually seen one, just pics.

Hey I was lookign into this laptop, and im worried about the grainy screen problem. I like a high-res screen, so that would be an option i would choose. Has anyone received their Inspiron 1520 recently? If so, has dell managed to fix the problem? If not, just how bad is the problem? Does anyone know if the Vostro model has the same problem? I have also head of both of these laptops having a high pitched hissing noise when using headphones? Anyone else experiencing this? I know many laptops do it when plugged in, but what about when its not plugged in?
Thanks for all your help in advance
