I received my Vostro 1500 yesterday and unfortunately the screen is grainy. It is the WXGA 1280x800 TL. I want to replace the screen under warranty but I don’t know which screen is perfect clear. If you can help please let me know the manufacture of your screen. Only WXGA 1280x800 TL.
    LPL (LGPhilips LCD) - grainy
    SEC (SamsungElectronics Co) - ?
AUO (AU Optronics Corp.) - ?
CMO (Chi Mei Optoelectronics) - ?

once again YOU CAN NOT DESIGNATE WHICH SCREEN YOU GET.. they send you what they send you so it doesnt matter which one is the best you just have to wait for another and see what you get

which screen do you have post the model from the hardware id

Colors are good, no yellowed whites but there is light bleeding on 1" or 1.5". And brightness is not very strong, compared to Sony.

TL is for True Life (glossy screen)

Mine is LPLCC00 and has some grain to it. Enough for me to want to replace. I see it alot during DVD playback which is the main annoyance.

I've got the CMO (Chi Mei Optoelectronics)

I'm generally pleased with it apart from a fair amount of light leakage. Very bright and pure whites.
It also suffers from diagonal lines which are not visible in normal use however with a window or lamp reflecting off of the screen it becomes obvious. I had a look at around 10 other glossy laptops in a store and and found they all suffer from it (most to a lesser degree mind you). I guess it's another reason to get the matte screen.

I'm more annoyed by the headphone noise and the appalling customer support....

again sec is not samsung....... All screens have been reported grainy at one time or another, but wxga are usually good. You will most likely get a good one the next time around, no matter what manufacturer you get.

It seems those with LG screens are reporting in as the happiest of them all.

I've got the AUO WXGA (1280x800) TrueLife and am extremely happy. It's bright, sharp, clear, no grain, has good colors, and no light leakage. I wouldn't exchange it for anything. I don't think a screen could be any better. I guess you can get good ones or bad ones with any of the brands. I don't think any one brand is better than the next to tell you the truth.
