Hey guys,
I know about the grainy screens and the likelihood of getting one, but I was just wondering if anyone who has ordered an XPS M1530 in the past couple of weeks has received a grainy screen.
Also before people say get the LED screen, I'm in the UK and they haven't been released and I doubt they will until XPS M1530 gets a refresh with the new platform.
I'm looking particularly at the 1440x900 screen, but any info would help. Could people also post what country they got the laptop.
Thanks for the help guys.

The grainy screens were mainly in the Samsungs of the WSXGA+ 1680x1050 resolution. Because Dell has completely scrapped the resolution as an option and being that the resolution itself is very popular... there is no one complaining about grainy screens because you simply cant order any WSXGAs anymore. You can only choose between the LED WXGA and the high def WUXGA.
There are many reports of the WUXGA having grainy, but the majority of people shun it off saying that oh the "pixels are too dense, so it doesnt matter" whereas some dont like the silky look, whereas few say they feel its perfect.
WXGA+ (the 1440x900) is the most popular resolution right now and I dont know about the non-LED, but the LED one is perfect, there really have been no reports of graininess or anything of the sort.
The non-LED screens for the 1440x900 are mostly LG, though of course it is susceptible to grain, but most likely wont be as high compared to the already out the window WSXGA Samsung Screens or the WUXGA Screens. -
Mate I have revieved an M1530 on 28th of April, in UK with 1680x1050 res and it was not grainy at all! Maybe I was lucky or maybe they ran out of Samsung screens.
Also do not order by the website, as it has less options ( i had to phone to get 1680x1050 ) and over the phone u can always haggle -
Can you check if it's the LG? I've been waiting to hear that the 1680 Samsung is no more in the UK.

Yes you can check it by going to your Device Manager and checking the Properties of the Generic PnP Monitor.
Of course there is also the problem with samsungs being much dimmer than LGs. So... most likely none of you who have a Samsung have seen a WSXGA+ made by LG... so yeah, you wouldn't know.
No offense to your notebooks whatsoever with the previous comment as Im pretty sure there are good Samsungs out there, though based on posting trends, there have been more negatives with Samsungs while almost all positive with LGs.
By the way fountainhead, whats keeping you on the forums? Arn't you happy with your unit? -

Mine should be here tomorrow - will post on here once i boot her up. Ordered on the 21st of May, just a few days before they pulled the option. Heres to hoping I'm not disappointed. If not ill be on the phone within minutes with Dell to return it for an LED and pay the difference/reorder it or go with the larger 1920x1200 resolution. I'm young, i have spry eyes.

I wouldn't be too surprised if there is a LED WXGA+ replacement shortly.

I would be very optimistic if that happens, but guess I have to agonize waiting for it to arrive tomorrow.
Grainy screens, what happened?
