Hey..pretty simple question...can I install the latest ATI drivers from the official site, or do I have to get them from the Dell site?

(Actually..i can't seem to find them on the ATI site :S Does this mean you have to wait for Dell to update? Or am I just not looking in the right place?)

This is for a Studio 15 btw

I just read around couple of hours back in another thread here in NBR, that ATI doesn't have drivers for mobile cards and you have to get it from your laptop manufacturer.........

They were also saying that either you get it from the OEM or get the driver from ATI website and use some modder tool too get it work on your laptop....

Let me see if I can find that thread / discussion...

    Ah here.... just found some...

Ah that would make sense...I can't see 3400 series under 'Mobility Radeon' but I can see it under the general 'Radeon' section. Obviously I don't want to try and install it without being sure it won't kill my laptop lol

Well if we do it the right way, its not going to kill our laptop because I think many people with the ATI card' are doing this.. and yeah, the name of that tool is mobility modder I think..

And anyway, if you want to try, read well before you do it :) :) Good Luck and Cheers.

LOL...clearly u were SO helpful i assumed it couldn't have been a one man job ;)

(In reality..i didn't read the name and assumed it was someone different lol sorry!)

I think I'll give it a miss though...was just curious, and it feels a bit risky. I love my new (and first) laptop :D don't want to do anything that could mess it up!

LOL... :) I am a learner too, learning lots of new n awesome things here on NBR *every day* and I always keep bookmarks of every useful post / every new thing I come across :) and it helps me guide / help others quickly. Anyway...

Well, I don't see any harm in trying if you really want to. There are experts around here with ATI cards who could hold a hand for you, if you wished :)

But its your decision and so... as you wish :)

And yes, I would see how it goes with the current drivers, use the laptop well in all the possible ways you would be using it normally.. see if everything performs well with the current configuration / spec.. if you have any issues, you can always find a fix, dropping back here :) :) Good Luck and Cheers.

Just keep in mind that if your blu-ray playback quits working, it would be due to non-WHQL signed video drivers after using a modding tool.

FWIW: The latest 8.9 Catalyst drivers can be installed just fine w/o the use of a modding tool thus preserving the WHQL signature...
