Hello all - I am enjoying our new Inspiron 6000 - but I notice a very huge slowdown in the graphics when I am on battery - some of the graphic-intensive games speed goes to molasses - I'm assuming this is an energy-saving feature to make the batty last longer? Is there a way to specify this (as in screen brightness in BIOS)when I'm running on the battery? Thanks![ :)]

Hmmm, ok, did that - set the display properties to 'max performance' - this helped somewhat, but Im still seeing a HUGE FPS hit. Any other ideas?

Powerplay doesn't have a 'max performace' setting. it's "optimal performance". i think you're in the wrong place.

Ok, maybe I'm showing my ignorance here - "display settings" - off the Control Panel - gives me a number of performance options on setting time-outs for the drives, etc, screen turn-off, etc. Where else should I be looking? Thx.

display properties > settings > advanced > powerplay > powerplay settings (make sure the checkbox is checked)

    there are 3 settings...

    plugged in
    high battery
    low battery

adjust to your liking (high battery = "optimal performance")

drumfu - problem solved! set the option in "POWERPLAY" on the ATi control panel - works great - thanks for the pointers. Not the best batty life with everything running full tilt - got 1.75 hours on a full charge playing EQ2 - I guess that's not too awful. Thx again! Be nice if there was some documentation on this feature...
